Marshall looks good so far.
And just as I say that...

Punt return for a TD by Andre Booker of Marshall.
GO HERD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!
Marshall is fast.

For those who don't know, Doc Holladay---head coach of Marshall---worked under Urban Meyer at Florida.

Holladay can recruit the hell out of Florida and he has gotten a ton of great athletes the past two years from that state in particular.

The speed is clearly evident in this game, in my opinion.
I don't think Marshall is looking too good. Got a punt return but that's it so far.
Marshall's D-Line isn't generating the push and pressure it did in last year's game against WVU.

Hopefully Marshall can sustain a long point-scoring drive here because he defense was on the field the entire first quarter.
Marshall can't get off the field on third and longs.

Geno Smith is unreal at extending plays.
So, did we steal that Bells sound on 3rd down from WVU or did they steal it from us?
what a moron
4 and inches around the 50 and the go for it ,,,,from the shoot gun ..double moron
masrshall get back in the game with a field goal
i dont know why marshall doesnt run his qb ,,,especially close to the goal line

lol

There was nothing moronic about WVU going for it there. It was 4th and inches at around Marshall's 40-45 yardline. Also, they weren't in the shotgun; they were in a variation of the fullhouse.

Secondly, Holgerson came to WVU because of his ability to generate points. West Virginia only had 20 on the board at that point in time despite Holgerson's claim to put up 70 on Marshall. Therefore, he had to back up his talk.

But, regardless of the talk and expectations, it still made sense for WVU to go for it there.
Shotgun, full house, whatever. The point is somebody was going to have to run a lot further with the ball to get a first down than on a sneak. I don't fault them for going for it. I do question the play call, though.
I don't ever remember 'Weather Delays' in football. Are these a relatively new occurence?

He had two points: 1) That it was dumb to go for it in the first place and 2) that it was even more dumb for them to go for 4th and Inches out of the shotgun (which wasn't even the formation they were in).

That was the point he was trying to make and he was wrong on both counts.

It was a handoff out of the fullhouse. They motioned a guy to the left and tried to power it in that direction.

The choice to go for it and the playcall were fine. Marshall simply won out on that play.

It happens.

It's annoying to say the least.

Marshall did win the play, and should be congratulated for it. I still think it was the wrong play to call.

Well, hindsight is 20/20 and I'm willing to give an offensive-genius like Holgerson the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sure his thinking was that a QB sneak up the gut was the obvious call...so he opted for a power run behind the left tackle.

Marshall just shot through the gaps and that was that.

Anyway, they just said that the players should be back on the field by 7:45 EST (which is right now) and play should resume 14 minutes after that.

So that'd be about 7:00 for us on CST.

*EDIT* Play set to resume at 7:05 CST.
This is ridiculous.

Another weather delay, meaning at least another 30 minute wait.

I remember delays all the time for lightning. That was the only reason, though (which I still think is the case). We were in pregame warmups in a game at Dora when lightning stuck the top of the next hill over. We looked to see if we should go to the locker rooms and our coaches (one of whom was my dad) were halfway there in a full sprint.
I was at a high school game last year that both teams got pulled off the field due to lightning.

It wasn't reports of lightning, though. It was honest-to-gosh 1940s scary movie lightning.
Just saw that a fan was struck by lightning at the game.
