Quote:Baylor's Starr: College athletics becoming embarrassment
By Ken Starr

Once again, after a year of relative peace, the landscape of college athletics faces the specter of seismic upheaval. One institution's rumored conference shift has caused an earthquake that threatens to set off a tsunami of changes around much of the country. Over the weekend, the directors of the Big 12 and the SEC met in emergency sessions; the directors of the ACC followed suit on Monday morning. At stake are historic institutional relationships, storied rivalries and millions of dollars.

Such chaos and instability arise at a particularly inopportune time for college athletics. Challenging economic conditions and deepening concerns about the educational experience of our student-athletes are forcing colleges and universities to take a hard look at their athletics programs. Just last week, the NCAA convened a summit that included 50 university presidents. At its conclusion, the presidents were unanimous in their desire to make positive changes that enhance accountability and improve the academic quality of college athletics.

wow he comes across really...whiny?
With Baylor in danger of getting left behind, you know why...

Rice, SMU, TCU, UH
He is a cry baby because his team is the prey of the food chain! But we officially know now why the expansion process has slowed, however, the fat lady is still waiting to sing. So who's #14? 07-coffee3

Yup. Ken Starr's Baylor is "in" and those schools "out" because of political dealing behind closed doors that was anything but transparent and accountable.

Also, what A&M is doing is very open. Too much so, maybe.
If you've ruined as many lives as Ken Starr did as Independent Counsel, you should be shot for whining.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Baylor.
he should stick to worrying about Bill Clinton's ***** instead
Another bashing of Baylor as if we were the ones who killed the SWC... this feels like deja vu. I am sure I've seen this before...
Sucks to be Baylor.
Your president is the one crying to the national media about tradition and fairness but everyone can see the agenda: "somebody save us because we will be left out"

You call this Baylor bashing??? Please....

Bashing is what you as a moderator have let fans of your conference brethren get away with when they attack UH. When you ignore private messages to the point we have to go to another upper mod to get something done about it.

This is just pointing out the hypocrisy of Ken Starr's statements of loyalties to rivalries and conference.

Glass houses and all.

There I feel better now.

Nice! Couldn't have said it better myself!
Nobody is buying anything Baylor is putting out about their concern for conference realignment. All the old SWC schools know the backdoor political deals that Baylor pulled to get themselves in the Big 12. They say they're concerned about losing their rivalries. They didn't seem to care about this when they joined the Big 12 and Houston, Rice, SMU, and TCU were left out. Loss of revenue is what Baylor is really concerned about. They have more to lose now than the majority of the other Big 12 schools. Problem for Baylor is that everyone knows the real Baylor this time around - and they will be prepared.

Bingo! We have a winner! Another good post by 10thMountain!
I really hope that UT, Tech, OU and OSU go to the PAC, Aggies to the SEC and a combo of Kansas, K-State, Baylor, TCU, ECU and UCF to a reconfigured ACC/BE type scenario. Leaves no Big 12 or BE for expansion.
What a self-serving piece of drivel.

Keep hoping.
Why is it OK for the UH and A&M President to get out and hope for better situations for their respective schools and not OK for Baylor. Sounds like Baylor is trying to do the same thing that A&M and UH are doing.

Hey, if we are concerned about the welfare of the other Texas schools, why don't we do a big SWC, so we can all sing kum-by-ya and be happily ever after?

I hope that spots open up in the BE for SMU and UH. I would say Rice too but I don't see them getting close to an invite. I also hope that the B12 survives (obviously) as all of these things are good for the state.
