The same anonymous source who says that the 14th team has not been discussed also claims there is "zero chance" that Florida State will be the 14th SEC team, so take this report for what it's worth.
well when will they discuss who 14 is. Someone make a poll for #14
The more interesting part:

Quote:The person said it's a "zero chance" that Florida State would be the 14th team and that it is highly unlikely it would be any ACC team.

"Our presidents simply don't want to break up another conference," the person said. "Remember, Texas A&M reached out to us. You know how many households there are in Texas? 8.9 million. Why would we want to hand that to the Pac 12 or any another conference?"

West Virginia and Missouri have also been mentioned, but the person said Louisville would make more sense.

"The question is what's the dynamic with Kentucky? Will Kentucky have a problem with it?" the person said. "I doubt Kentucky would have the beef that Georgia does with Georgia Tech or South Carolina does with Clemson."
I guess they'll discuss #14 over the winter/spring. I don't see why the SEC would need to rush. Divisions of 7 and 6 could work for 1 year.
Of course, to get school 14 by 2013 they'd need to be officially invited, etc by...June/early July 2012. So...9 months. And I'm guessing they'd let the conference they're taking a school from earlier than June so they'd have adequate time to prepare.

Lots of cogs in motion...
Well, the original rumor was A&M as #13 next year and then they add #14 the following year. So not sure why people think they have to announce #14 right away.

If its Louisville or WVU I wish them the best of luck in the SEC. Can't hate on them for bettering themselves.

Pretty much. People jumped on the wreckless speculation that the SEC was heading to 16 with Mizzou, FSU, and Va Tech-or something like that.
Louisville huh.

That's pretty much my response.
It's starting to look like this round of realignment is going to end with a whimper rather than a bang. At least we will have another year to talk about this stuff.
The rumors earlier today were all a shameless attempt by eSPN to derail this thing. ESPN has a lot of money to lose with a renegotiated SEC and a potential collapse of the BIG 12.

Thats been pretty much my thoughts all along. This thing could last 10-15-20 years before we have even a 5-14 or even 6-14 let alone this 4-16 stuff.
It took some time after Arkansas was invited before #12 was selected.

Quote:Interesting to see ESPN types rally against A&M to SEC today. it's almost like ESPN owns a rival university’s TV network or something ...

I would think Kentucky would be more upset than the others. Louisville was a non-AQ until relatively recently and is now in the BE a conference that fans perceives as a lesser AQ conference. Putting them in the SEC makes them equals to Kentucky in the state. Clemson has been a big name team in a long term conference so while SC would not want them at least they are not promoting a newcomer to the AQ scene. Georgia Tech has a "You left the SEC problem" in addition to not bringing in a lot of new people.

I'm not so sure...

-A&M goes to the SEC.
-The Big 12 needs to replace them by NEXT year if they're going to, so they'd need to announce soon. WHO they announce could have a few ripples through the lower conferences.
-Sometime within the next 9 months a 14th SEC team is announced.
-If that team is, say, L-ville or WVU, does the Big East respond? Who's to say? If its an ACC team, that opens a whole can of worms.

There's still a bit to figure out. There's not going to be any cataclysmic shift, but some good amount of movement.
Well where the hell did all the Louisville fans go. They should be partying it up right now. So to the BE 8, do you split yet? It's time you take Houston and UCF. Unless B12 takes Houston. UCF & ECU, then?

That would make sense that Louisville would turn down the B12, since the SEC is very possible.
SEC could stay at 13 for a long time too. It is not like they have to get to 14. The fact that they made it clear that A&M came to them and they are not looking to break up another conference speaks volume about their intentions.

All those stupid blog rumor that SEC is going to 16 is just plain stupid. It makes no sense. SEC can afford to wait when the right team came along. I am pretty sure they will take a team from a state with a large TV market so I doubt UL or WVU would be part of that discussion.

LOL. When you do think every team in the country is dying to go to the SEC? I sure hell never ever want my school to be part of that semi-pro league where to win you got to cut corners and cheat. It is not like we all will be competing on even fields. SEC schools are good at pushing the boundary in everything. You think the stuff that happened with Cam Newton is out of the ordinary? I am sure that's normal mode of operation down there in order to compete.

I want my school to be no part of that. Education means something to some colleges LOL.

If UL or WVU do go to the SEC, they gonna find out quickly they can't compete with those SEC programs. Academics they would fit but no way in football. As fans, do you really want your team to go to a conference where you are over matched from day 1 in resources and be another Kentucky in football? I sure don't want that. I much rather be in a conference with similar schools that share similar academic missions. The only reason I can see is for the money. I don't see Indiana football fans jumping up and down every season and I am sure they get paid a lot from the B1G.
