Its not about me. I'm a millionaire several times over who has the resources to navigate all of the petty and not-so-petty bigotry endemic in the Deep South (well except for the time I got the hell beat out me by some good Christian leaving a bar in Birmingham - for doing nothing more than walking to my hotel). I don't have health issues. I don't have a husband that is a foreign citizen. Sadly, others are not so lucky.

But for the hundreds of thousands of Gay men and women in the South living under the rule of bigotry, its a different story. Lynchings happen (5 in Alabama in the last 10 years). People are forced to go to hate houses to get federal benefits for health treatment. Diseases spread because Gay men are too scared of losing their jobs to attend health screenings. Kids kill themselves because of bullying combined with bad parenting and demonization by society (with frightening frequency - I don't know how I survived high school) Diseases spread because if someone is out, they get fired by their fundy managers, so they won't access treatment/education. Diseases spread because tea party governments don't provide any education to the 99.9999% of Gay men who (like 99.9999% of straight men) are not lifelong celibates. Diseases spread because governments don't provide adequate funding for health care. Promiscuity rages because monogamy is demeaned by government and society in the South. And god forbid you have a partner who isn't a US citizen. You can't live with them because they can't get immigration status with marriage. The state breaks up stable Gay relationships. Gays cannot teach in or even attend many federally funded colleges and universities. Not moving. You can't push them around anymore. Get your church out of the public square first, then we can talk about Gays getting out of the public square.

When Gays can fire people for being evangelical(currently against the law in all 50 states), then you can talk about the fairness of laws that allow evangelicals to fire people (while taking tax dollars) for being openly Gay.

The One Nation under God language was inserted in the Pledge of Allegiance...in the 1950's as part of the McCathyist nightmare. It used to read... One Nation, Indivisible...

Furthermore, if you are looking to live under a religious government might I suggest that you move to France, where the church actually does have special standing.

And yes, if you don't support equal pay for equal work (that includes benefits) and equal rights then you do have a problem with Gay people. There are really only two reasons why someone would oppose equality. They are:

1) Animosity or hatred towards Gays
2) A desire to make your religious laws the laws for everyone, including those that don't share your religion.

Your moniker is pretty accurate, but lose the brook part. You are a lazy thinker who just parrots the talking points of your lobby. What a load of drivel. If you don't believe that gays are hurting their own cause by being in-your-face activists, you must have your eyes and ears closed.

Check out what the GLT lobby has been foisting upon public schools in California. Normal people have a right to be mad. Sexual indoctrination of kids too young to understand sexuality is just plain EVIL, but that is the agenda of the groups in California and the far left legislature has been rubber stamping each of these efforts. There is no comparable situation regarding Christians and the imposing of a theocracy in the U.S. - that crazy notion rests only in the heads of those far lefties who tremble at the thought of having to follow norms and rules in society. Like children, they want to do what they want, when they want to do it and believe that NOBODY should dare criticize them for it.

Lazythought - you are either willfully blind in your obedience to your cause or just intellectually dishonest. I'm guessing the latter.

I'm not even a good Christian but I don't suffer fools well. To each his own - just don't throw it in the faces of those who believe differently. If you keep your private sexual matters private, we have no problem. But your group won't. It WANTS to provoke and annoy others who don't believe the same way and force feed your horse manure propaganda to defenseless little kids. I really don't care if somebody is gay until they put it in my face. At that point, I lose all respect for them as human beings and it is solely THEIR FAULT.

Teaching children about Harvey Milk is teaching them about California history. The California bill only mandates that relevant LGBT persons be represented in middle and high school classes as part of history lessons.

And when the fundamentalists keep their faith in their church, then they can ask others to keep their beliefs in their homes.

Nope no legal mandate there, so much for equal treatment under the law.. Some animals are more equal than others.
Not cheerleading...but not helping. Why would I help someone who won't help themself? All of this is irrelevant. This country votes its laws and when put to a vote the VAST MAJORITY vote not to legalize gay marriage. These militant homo's only make things worse.

Bullsh!t on stilts. It is indoctrination. Tell me what of historical significance did Harvey Milk do? Other than his gayness, he is insignificant, except to gays.

There is a whole lot more going on out there regarding school policies than the Harvey Milk issue and you know it. The entire effort is to get to kids early and convince them that all kinds of out-of-the-norm sexual behavior is totally normal. They want and strive to silence any dissent from parents and others and even go so far as to not let parents know just exactly WHAT is being taught to their children.

That is evil. You know that.

Harvey Milk, the first openly Gay elected official of any consequence on planet earth, led a movement to teach Gays themselves that they could be proud of who they are. He led the first successful Gay ballot fight (against the Briggs Amendment). He was assasinated by a right wing, Christian politician. His murderer received 3 years in prison for killing him.

He was the most significant politician in the last 50 years in California's second largest city.

He is as significant to today's political discourse as Cesar Chavez or any of the Religous Right are.

You can teach your kids that Gays are filthy disgusting creatures and lie to them about us at home. Not at school. At least not in California.

This is the type of **** that causes atrocities like what's seen in Iran. People get fed the hell up. You want to live your life as a gay guy, no one has a problem with it. Live your lives and let it fuken be. My GOD, some of these militant f'ers epitomize the term "drama queen".

Their damn kids? what about our kids? Or your damn gay kids? You know the ones that end up hooking on the streets when they get thrown out of their homes for being Gay? Or who kill themselves after being bullied and isolated at school, not being supported by their parents, demonized by their church, and ignored by fundamentalists on school boards.

Keep up the fight. See how far it gets you.

...but don't whine like a little ***** when, in 50 years, you're still in the same damn boat. So, spears forward. Attack what the other side cherishes. Instead of coming to a compromise, you just want to force it into other people's faces. ...and I can guarantee you, it's not going to turn out well for your side.

Compromise? What is the tea parties compromise... No recognition of Gay relationships. Continued pay inequity for Gays. Continued discrimination against Gays in employment and housing.

Loud, sometimes obnoxious, rallies and actions seem to be working just fine. Gay marriage is coming (that good ole' full faith and credit clause will do just fine for us in the Supreme Court).

We realize that the haters are going to throw a fit every time we ask for greater equality. They don't compromise without being forced to. Name one time that Gays being quiet and invisible has helped advance equality. You can't, because equality has to be fought for. And if no one is listening, or if people don't want to face the issue, you have to be loud enough to ensure that you get enough attention to make your case. And because the only arguments against Gay equality are based in sharia style public policy or unvarnished bigotry, we win when we take up the fight. And we're winning the battle of public opinion. Its only a matter of time before ENDA, and Marriage Equality get passed or enacted by the courts.

He led the first successful Gay ballot fight (against the Briggs Amendment). He was assasinated by a right wing, Christian politician. His murderer received 3 years in prison for killing him.

He was the most significant politician in the last 50 years in California's second largest city.

You just proved MileHigh's point. He is no one of consequence to anyone save gays.

And where is the mandate that kids in school be taught about anyone on the religious right and their role in political discourse?

Quote:You can teach your kids that Gays are filthy disgusting creatures and lie to them about us at home.

Wait, I thought you weren't gay?

Quote:Not at school. At least not in California

I don't think kids should be taught gays are filthy disgusting creatures in school. I don't think they should be required to learn anything about gays in school. I believe that's the point most on here are making.
