Since these are articles I am giving each one a new thread.
This one is also interesting. This says he was interviewed on Tuesday and hired almost immediately. I guess they really liked what they saw!
"Mike Thomas arrived on the Illinois campus Tuesday for a late morning interview to replace the retired Ron Guenther as athletic director.
The school didn't need to hear much, as it hired the former Cincinnati AD Wednesday afternoon."
Also - I was not aware of this - "Thomas, who served as Akron's athletic director before Cincinnati, said he helped construct $30 million worth of new facilities for the Bearcats, including a new football practice facility. The school also is in the second phase of studying its basketball arena"
He did? Other than the practice facility, what am I forgetting?
And - Ron Zook does not seem too impressed - "Zook said he hasn't had an opportunity to meet Thomas as the football team is training in Rantoul. He was not consulted about the hire, he said.
"I'm excited that it's over with and we know who it is," he said. "I'm looking forward and I think it's a great day for the University of Illinois. It's go, man, go."
