Now, I think that this has a snowball's chance in hell of happening, but hey lets get all the message board rumors out there!

It is well known that during last year's Big Ten Delany is God Who Will Take Over The Universe madness, Deloss Dodds and Jack Swarbrick had many discussions, worked together to combat the Big Ten overtures/threats and worked out a ND/Texas series.
LOL That only happens if both Texas and ND are members for all sports but football.
I put this on the conf expansion board. Purely hypothetical and seriously doubt it would become a reality. However, I think this conference would make ND want give up independence IMO.

UT Division
Texas
Oklahoma
Okla St
Texas Tech

Arizona St (?)

ND Division
Notre Dame
USC
Stanford
Pitt
BC
Syracuse
West Virginia (?)
Terry, did the Texas AD discuss this with anyone in South Bend, or is this another one pulled out of his @ss?
My guess is that his rectum is empty now......

ND will not give up independence to join a football conference with Texas (or anyone else).

No but they could work with Texas in creating a conference that would allow both schools independence in football but homes to the rest of their sports

Well, I think Domers want to characterize it that way ("ND and UT beat down the Evil Empire!"), but my understanding of the situation is that everyone was playing all sides and keeping their options open, whether it was the Big Ten, Pac-10, independence, etc. UT was definitely on the doorstep of joining the Pac-16 and it was really a combo of LHN issues and not wanting A&M to go to the SEC that scuttled that deal, so it's not as if though they had some principled objection to superconferences (which is the single greatest "threat" to ND independence). I'm not saying that ND was going to join the Big Ten, yet it was certainly not some type of "Just get away from us - we don't want to hear what you have to say!" type of situation. You can see Jack Swarbrick's quotes from last spring when he talked about how great an asset the Big Ten Network was and then giving not-quite-firm commits to independence. Swarbrick changed his tune as alums clearly voiced their opposition, but you can tell ND was at least exploring its options seriously and performing some due diligence.
That all depends on how many rats leave Texas' sinking ship, Cuban...

What is in that for Notre Dame? They already have that, and with exposure in the area of the country they want.
He said the LHN wouldnt air high school games if it brought peace to the B12, there's the out. The B12 can stay together

I was talking if superconferences came into being this is one way that Both Texas and Notre Dame could join to keep themselves from being pushed into them. You now would have TWO major players outside the conferences which would make it more difficult to exclude from a playoff.
Frank:

There definitely was a lot of dialogue between Dodds and Swarbrick on a number of issues last year. A Texas/ND series was one result.

The word out of ND is that one of the things discussed was how to resist or deflect (at some point) the Big Ten's overtures.

My point is that Dodds and Swarbrick have a very good relationship. One example is Dodds telling folks last year that that ND would have a home in the Big 12 for its other sports. The games scheduled last year between Texas and ND is another.

Having said that, I find it very hard to believe that ND and Texas have had any substantive discussions of jointly starting their own conference.

In that case then, I would be all for it and think that it is a fantastic idea.
Adcorbett,

It's "lmfao" not "lmao". That's why it didn't work.
Face it, If Texas wants football independence, they can approach the Big East and ask if we will accommodate them as we do Notre Dame. ND would probably agree and I don't see any reason any team wouldn't agree to it.

That said, I lean towards Frank's thinking that Texas still wants to belong in a conference. They will look to the Pac 12 and the B1G 10 and will bring value to either one.
No matter where Texas ends up, they won't have the sweetheart deal they had in the Big XII...

You know what? I actually don't think the BE would do it. Because then they will be trying to do the same thing with BE teams.

The LAST thing we need is Notre Dame AND Texas taking our bowl bids... 03-banghead

Well on the flip side, our bowl lineup would improve drastically.

If teh Big 12 dissolves, their bowls would be open, so we could improve our selection. Besides, we don't have to allow the bowl tie-in, just take their teams other than football. For the record, I'm not sure I want Texas involved with the Big East, I was just throwing out the comment for discussion.
