Come on NIU007, he wasn't talking about Rice, he was clearly talking about Florida Atlantic.
Toledo started a couple of days ago.

Isn't it funny how there are three DI FBS schools with the nickname of Owls? I bet there is not another nickname in D1 FBS that has three teams using it.

The SEC is not very unique in their team names. Of 12 teams they have 2 Bull dogs, 2 tigers, and 3 teams have names of groups/people that have roots due to the result of the Civil war (Volunteers and Rebels on one side and the Commodores is about a person trying to mend the fence due to the civil war). The tigers are even in the same division.

Then again why should we complain how many teams in the MAC have or had Native American names? We also have a lot of birds though they are at least different birds.
Yea, at least we have different species, for pete's sake!

What's a Golden Flash?
Unique, and at least we don't have to worry about 4 others with the same name. I like nit and love the logo, helmets and uniforms as well, despite those ridiculous rankings in the other threads.

it's ok, Brian. i liked doing the research and it helped get me through a Friday afternoon at work where i was having some trouble getting motivated! all's good!
question for temple fans, since i didnt want to make a new thread for this.

im buying tickets for the Toledo/Temple game, what sideline are the owls on and what sideline are the visitors on?
Depends, if the visitors arrive with a winning record they will be on the winning sideline...arrive 0 for the season they'll be on the losers sideline. 03-wink
