Watched the Disney version of Secretariat tonight. A bit corny at times, but still a good flick. My daughter started watching it inadvertently while playing, but halfway through the movie was sitting on the couch with us yelling for "Big Red" to win. She took a hunter jumper lesson down in Cincinnati recently, and is taking a liking to horses.........cha-ching 03-weeping

I've never been a big fan of horse racing, but the 73 Belmont when Secretariat won the triple crown by 31 lengths still sends chills up my spine. It was probably the only horse race where the family, friends, and neighbors all sat down to watch a horse race. We all got pretty excited as he pulled away.

When Chick Hern says, "He's running like a tremendous machine." ...........goose bumps.

One of my top 5 sporting events of all time. Ali vs. Frasier, Ali vs. Forman, 7th game of the 68 World Series, "79" MSU vs. ND Regional Final......Magic blows Tripucka out of the gym, and the 73 Belmont.

He was a cut above, for sure. And one of the most beautiful race horses ever. All eyes were glued to that race, back in the days before ESPN and other sports TV channels. That race was the only game in town.
Never have been a big fan of horse racing but that race was one of the few times I have ever tuned in for one. I, too got goose bumps as he pulled away from the field.

As the years have gone by, it becomes more and more apparent just how incredible that Secretariat's feat really was.

Yeah, at the time I thought this probably happens quite often. Not only does it not happen, but Secretariat's times, and win totals are off the charts. He was a freak of nature. When he died he was autopsied and his heart was 2 1/2 times the size of an average horse.
