By slashing a massive /sarcasm/ $4trillion over the next ten years that's roughly 28% of the deficit which really is meaningless when put in perspective of the TRULY MASSIVE budget increase of roughly 33% Obama and the democrats rammed through. A $4trillion cut over ten years is only 10% of Obama's inflated budget. Revenue increases should only be considered after $10trillion of cuts over the next ten years are locked in. Revenue increases should only be accepted by tax reform that eliminates the corporate tax in favor of a VAT or sales tax. Individual tax rates should remain unchanged unless a flat tax is adopted eliminating all loop holes and deductions.
4 trillion bucks is chicken feed now?

$4 trillion cut from $40trillion spent with $26trillion revenue. Relatively speaking it is chicken feed.

Nothing indicates that we will have a balanced budget (especially a surplus) until it is mandated by the Constitution.

Tallest midget. 03-lmfao Obama instantly added $10MM over ten years with his first budget. It's a tall order to cut gubment back to 2008's bloated levels? Seems gubment was already excessive in 2008 getting back to that level of excess should be easy.

I have a 29 year old daughter, 22 year old son (headed to the Persian Gulf in September) along witha 3 year old Granddaughter, I hope to leave them more than a social security system full of IOUs and mountains of debt. That's why I don't oppose paying more taxes as long as they come to a workable debt reduction plan.
I am a liberal not a Communist.

SSI was a liberal ponzie scheme from day 1. The first recipients were paid without ever making a contribution, with contributions made by the next generation of recipients. As the number of recipients has grown the number of contributors per recipient has grown to keep the program solvent. The only way to make SSI self sufficient is to take the taxes collected both employee and employer match and invest in conservative non-government ventures. A lockbox paying gubment interest IS IOU's.

I would prefer the taxes collected be managed on an individual basis with restrictions on withdraw options that make sure people are not likely to run out of money before they die.
Are those the same IOUs the Chinese hold?

More or less since I have little faith the IOUs will ever be paid off.
Social Security having not added to the debt shouldn't be addressed with the debt ceiling plan but certainly should be addressed an issue unto itself. Social Security needs minor fixes and is easily remedied.
Why are we worried? When Obama campaigned he said he had a plan for this and when he campaigns again he'll have an even better plan.

Your kids and granddaughter are in serious trouble if your attitude prevails.

Social Security is a stand alone issue and should be addressed as one.

Being in the minority is easy and fun. You just complain about the incumbent and tout how your side could do better
