Which of our two Conference will prove to be the better league in 2011?

According to most sites the MAC. Presnap had three MAC teams in the top 60.
You forgot to mention the Sun Belt had zip. Should be a very good year for the MAC with as many as 5-6 teams Bowl eligible. The MAC is seeing improvement in a number of teams that are proverbial cellar dwellers: EMU, Kent State, etc.Traditional MAC powers Miami and Toledo have gotten back to respectability after a few bad years. From top to bottom the MAC should be much improved in 2011. So MAC>Sun Belt for 2011.
In football? Not a chance. Nor in basketball.
Wake me when a team out of the SBC finishes in the top 25 of the polls like NIU did last season.

It hasn't happened yet for the SBC.
It seems like the middle and especially bottom of the conferences are roughly equal, but the Sun Belt never seems to have any teams that are legitimately very good like the MAC puts together most years. I would also bet (just from seeing their overall records every year) that the SBC's nonconference record is quite a bit worse than the MAC's (which isn't exactly great).

For what it's worth, it probably doesn't help the SBC that they're going up against primarily SEC and Big 12 teams, and MAC teams tend to play the weaker Big Ten/Big East.

Watch the replay of the 2010 GMAC Bowl (that should refresh your memory).

Does it matter?

Does it matter?

Or is it possible to even tell.

I think this is the one missing piece of the puzzle for the Sun Belt.

If we could get one team a year that could crack the top 25, then the perception becomes better. Talent wise, I would say that the MAC and Sun Belt are on very similar terms. Look at the bowl games we have played against each other. Very competative and entertaining to watch. The 'Belt has come out on top recently but I think the 2 confrences are equal other then that missing Top 25 ranking.

Honestly, from top to bottom not this year. 2-3 years from now with what will be happening at North Texas and FAU, it could definitely be even. 5-6 years if the MAC doesn't get up off their fannies, the Sun Belt will probably surpass the MAC.

It didn't happen last year for NIU either. They dropped out of the rankings after they lost the MAC championship game. You need to go to 2009 for CMU's top 25 ranking.

2010 final ranking

Wait, if OSU has to drop out because of their vacated wins then NIU makes 25 in the USA Today poll.

Good point. Yay, we were #25! 02-13-banana
For those who think the MAC and Sun Belt are not close in football... I'd like to congratulate you on successfully cutting yourself off from the real world altogether. Kudos!

I didn't see anyone post that they weren't close.
The only thing the SBC has on us is last years bowl games. But you had 3 teams go bowling while we had 4. So that in itself is controversial. I wonder what the SBC's record against the MAC is all time?

FAU beat CMU in 2007.

The 'Belt has had a pretty good record in Bowl games since 2005. For the 1st time ever we had 3 teams bowling last year and if MTSU could of taken care of business the 'Belt would of had won the Bowl Cup thing that ESPN does as the confrence with the highest winning percentage during bowl season. (Cant recall the name)

As I said, other then the Top 25 team I think the 2 confences are pretty even and the 'Belt is improving every year in recuriting, wins and facilities.

Look at it this way, at least the WAC is below both of us now. 04-cheers
I can 04-cheers to that
I think the bowl records of the MAC and Sunbelt will both drop (or at least, not improve) if they keep getting in more bowls, since lesser teams end up in them. MAC teams, e.g., that are barely .500 are not a good candidate for winning a bowl game. The MAC had a very good record in bowls at one point, when they only had a couple teams going. The top couple teams in the MAC generally give a good showing. After that it's debatable, most years.

What is more intereting is how does the SBC compare with CUSA?

Both conferences have the same footprint, the same hodgepodge of regional type schools. The SBC is gaining on CUSA with the increase to 10 football members. The SBC could put a team in a BCS bowl before CUSA does.
