I want to thank the hard working American people for paying $242 thousand dollars for my vacation in Spain.

My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time. Honestly, you just haven't lived until you have stayed in a $2,500.00 per night private 3-story villa at a 5-Star luxury hotel.

Thank you also for the use of Air Force Two and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times. By the way, if you happen to be visiting the Costa del Sol, I highly recommend the Buenaventura Plaza restaurant in Marbella; great lobster with rice and oysters!

Air Force Two (which costs $11,351 per hour to operate according to Government Accounting Office reports) only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2. These are only rough estimates, but they are close. That's quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.

I know times are hard and millions of you are struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. So I do appreciate your sacrifices and do hope you find work soon.

I was really exhausted after Barack took our family on a luxury vacation in Maine a few weeks ago. I just had to get away for a few days.

Cordially,
Michelle Obama

PS. Thank you as well for the trip to India !

PPS. Thank you, too, for that vacation trip to Martha's Vineyard; it was fabulous. And thanks for that second smaller jet that took our dog Bo to Martha's Vineyard so we and the children could have him with us while we were away from the White House for eleven days.

PPPS. Oh, I almost forgot to thank you all for our "date weekend" in New York and to say thanks also for our two-week trip to Hawaii at Christmas. That 7,000 square foot house was great!

And finally, thanks for asking, we had a great time taking Air Force One to Chicago to tape our segment with Oprah a couple weeks ago, replete with full security, a separate plane for armored limosines and a full contingent of assistants.

Remember we all have to share the pain of these economic times equally! Love to -redistribute- share- the wealth.

No, I'd just like them not to jet set to visit Oprah in Chicago... Or New York for a night out..

Hey I can play that game too..

Hearing dumb**** lefties defend all the trips (domestic and abroad) makes me think they really want to see them dead. What a bunch of idiots.

When members of the First Family travel for non-official reasons, they pay the equivalent of a first-class airfare and pay their own personal accommodations. The US pays for the private travel and security because it is in our national interests to protect the President and the First Family. Your whining is proof that there is nothing you morons won't turn into a right-wing moanfest no matter how incredibly stupid it makes you look.

As usual you totally ignore the point. We are in the Obabba Depression. This stuff resonates with a majority of people. Get used to it, it is only the beginning. BTW calling it whining just makes it worse.

This stuff resonates with idiots who are looking for any reason, no matter how petty, to express their fear and hate. Fortunately, that sort of childish behavior is generally limited to you fringe right-wing rubes.

You kind of Jumped the Shark on that one.
Carter and Bush I receive lifetime protection from the Secret Service. Clinton and Bush II receive SS protection for 10 years after leaving office.

Where'e the right wing outrage for that?

Wait, I may be wrong, but I think that Clinton gets lifetime protection as well. Wasn't it Clinton that changed the protection rules going forward?

meh. It resonates with anyone who had to cancel a family vacation to Destin, Gatlinburg, DisneyLand/World, etc. while the first family is jaunting to Europe. Costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands.

I'm not upset with the President traveling internationally on official business. If he is gone for a considerable amount of time, I have no qualms with his family going to visit him for a leg of the trip. I don't like to see the family travel overseas without the President or visiting expensive locales in tough economic times (that's just poor PR). Camp David was constructed for a reason. It is a cheap, nice, safe location to vacation but still be able to run the country. There are a vast number of vacation spots within the US that would be cheaper on the taxpayers.

It is just another example of how the Obamas just don't understand what Joe Blow is going through.

Sorry, you are correct...I read it wrong on the SS site. http://www.secretservice.gov/faq.shtml#faq9

Don't get out much, or read much either, do you? You loons got mad because Bush had the audacity to actually vacation at..........wait for it......his own place in Crawford, Tx.

I wonder if Michelle is proud of her country yet?
No way MHB. We didn't care where Bush went. The outrage was that he was on vacation so much more compared to past presidents.

1. Right wing whining is better than left wing protesting where cars and buildings are burned and people get killed.

2. Wanna take a poll on who looks stupid?

I pretty much agree with your post. There is a term for what you describe. "Tone deafness." Make jokes about the economy while people are losing jobs and homes, jet around the country and the world for vacations, be mostly absent during a financial crisis (both figuratively and literally) while lecturing Congress about getting the debt talks completed. One example of tone deafness that resonates with me is Obama telling us that he is a deficit cutter after spending more than any Presidential administration in history. Oh, and this "shared sacrifice" he and his administration keeps talking about. It's really, YOU and ME share the misery while the political class (and all WH staffers) party on in the beltway like nothing is wrong.

There was a story last week that Washington D.C. has been one of the best places in the country for those looking for work. Lower unemployment rates, housing still being built. It is like the recession never really hit there - and we wonder why the beltway crowd is so out of touch?

I find this amusing. You didn't want Bush to implement anything. Now you are telling me that it was the fact that he was on vacation too much that bothered you and other libs. Really? Can I laugh now?

The fact that the current occupant is making Bush look like a piker and a vacation booking slacker doesn't faze you at all is because he's one of yours. I get that. Happens on our side, too.

Yet, compared to all of our problems, vacation travel of the first family hardly even registers on my radar. But it is emblematic of the Obama attitude towards the citizens of this country. It's great to be the king, as Mel Brooks said.
C'mon dude...you stated incorrectly why liberals were outragred at Bush and I corrected you. Sorry if you thought that meant I was also outraged at his vacations.

And the outrage was his vacations compared to past presidents...not ones that didn't exist yet (Obama).

And Obama's vacation time is still not at Bush II levels yet...not even close.

And where you get that I "didn't want Bush to implement anything" I will never know!

And FWIW pissboy, "It's GOOD to be the King" is the correct quote! 03-wink
Reasons why the left is outraged couldn't be listed on this board. The thread would be too long to read. Kind of like Islam, the far left doesn't really need a reason to be outraged. It's the default position for the far left. Just like the 2 year olds they are, they like to break stuff when they are unhappy. Like drama queens, they need that friction to feel alive and if it isn't there, they will create it.

Remember the provocation where Pelosi led the black caucus across to the Capitol building? Why do that when there is a tunnel? Probably goes back to hope and change. HOPING that they could provoke a response. Very mature but not unexpected from the left. They set up the scenario and made sure to alert the media so they could get their "gotcha" moment.

I'm really wasting my time responding to your tripe.
Quote:First Lady Michelle Obama’s trip to South Africa and Botswana last week cost taxpayers well over half a million dollars, possibly in the range of $700,000 or $800,000, according to an analysis by White House Dossier.
It's good to be married to the king

And she was there on what business?
Lefties we are still in -2- wars and your guy joined a 3rd. Why are you not marching in the streets? Standing outside his house? And those thousands of jobs he promised after spending trillions of dollars, there are less jobs today then when he took office. GO MARCH!
