OK, so as of July 1 Star Trek The Original Series and The Next Generation are available for streaming.

I grew up watching TOS and was a huge Star Trek fan (no conventions, though).

This is the first time I've seen it streaming on my 1080p and man, does it look great!

Sure, the special effects are dated, but the picture looks a LOT better than I expected it to.

I'm in for an 80-episode marathon! And it won't bother my wife... she's been tied to the TV watching every moment of the Casey Anthony trial.

Yep.

So far I've watch episodes 0-5.

Episode 0 was the pilot The Cage that wasn't aired. They used clips of that episode to make the two-parter The Menagerie. The green chick came from The Cage.

Susan Oliver was the actress that played Vina who appeared as the green chick.

There was another episode, Whom Gods Destroy (S3E14) that had another green chick in it. Marta was played by Yvonne Craig (of Batgirl fame).

The Siren no man can resist.
OK, come to find out Star Trek: The Original Series has been digitally remastered. That's why it looks so freakin' good now.

They added some stuff, too, like Star Wars did when they digitally remastered.

When the Enterprise goes cruising by you can see people in the windows moving around. And when they beam down to a planet like Eminiar VII in "A Taste of Armageddon" you can see a monorail moving and people walking around in the background.

Found this in wikipedia:

Quote:40th Anniversary remastering

This episode was remastered in 2006 and aired December 15, 2007 as part of the remastered Original Series. It was preceded a week earlier by the remastered version of "The Return of the Archons" and followed three weeks later by the remastered version of "Day of the Dove". Aside from remastered video and audio, and the all-CGI animation of the USS Enterprise that is standard among the revisions, specific changes to this episode also include:
  • The planet Eminiar VII has been given a more realistic Earth-like appearance. Patterns of lights from densely populated areas can be seen on the dark side of the planet.
  • The surface city backdrop has been digitally enhanced and appears more realistic. A moving tram and people walking in the background have been added to the scene.

So that explains it. The Enterprise is all CGI now.
