If the talent level in the MAC were to EVER drop to a level that would permit Temple to win a football title, I'll eat bicycle spokes and shards of glass!
(07-06-2011 08:49 AM)onlinepole Wrote: [ -> ]Temple has a better chance of winning the MAC and getting a BCS bowl bid than getting a BE invite. The East historically has been the weaker of the 2 divisions. What Temple needs to do is beat a big 10 heavyweight (PSU) when they play them and the BE/ACC team(s) on their OOC schedule(which they accomplished last year). With TCU & Utah joining the BCS there are only a few nonBCS teams that have a realistic chance of going undefeated and most of those are in or will be in 1 conference (MWC). It's an edge for NIU & Temple to be the class of their divisions. An undefeated nonBCS team will get a BCS bowl invite especially if they have 2 wins over BCS teams in a season. That's a realistic opportunity for Temple or NIU

Just a note - the Mountain West recently re-branded. They dropped the C. It is now the MW. This is not a joke.

Makes sense to drop the C, everyone knows that it is a conference. The B1G, Pac-12, Big 12, and Big East are lacking the C..

Hello, MA!

Lets please drop the "M" and be the American Conference
So now it will be "Hello A".

People might start thinking we are Canadian...
Our color would have to change to scarlet, in that case.

It says right in the UMASS contract that an agreed contract with Temple with the same exact info has to be made, or UMASS will be refunded their initiation fee and will not be a member of the MAC.

Temple's contract with the MAC ended already, so they would not still be in the MAC this year if they did not sign a new contract already.

VE - you can say you haven't seen the actual proof of the Temple contract, but I think it's pretty safe to say it's there and the same. Doesn't matter if you've seen it or not....I'm sure the President at Temple has, and the AD and probably the football coach.

Nobody, and I mean nobody in DI athletics would be moving to a new conference in less than one year (it's past July 1st now) and would not have informed their current conference and made a public statement.

Maybe Temple is still hoping for 2013, I don't know. It is now under the 2 year notification for 2013 though, but then again they could probably do some kind of agreement with the MAC to get out of the 2 year notification if they really wanted too. Most likely more money or football/basketball games for a few more years or something.

That said, I still stand by my belief that Temple's chances of getting into the BE are pretty slim......even though they are better than anyone else's chances of going from the MAC to the BE.
In all seriousness, are there NCAA rules about coaches lying to recruits? If so, what are the penalties and have investigations been started of Temple's coaching staff?

This is a disgrace. If there's no ramifications for doing what they're doing, then I hope our staff is selling recruits on our Big Ten membership in 2012. What a joke.

Then again, these kids aren't that bright if they are really believing the crap that the Temple coaches are spewing. I've always hated Temple, probably mainly because their fans make @sses of themselves on this forum, but now I hate them even more.

If there are rules, it would be very hard to prove. I bet they are saying something along the lines of. "We have an interest in your talents, and we think you would be a perfect fit for our program that plans to join the BigEast, maybe even as early as 2012." Technically they aren't guaranteeing the move, just suggesting it and letting the 18 year old minds do the rest... Now if someone recorded a session with a player or school, where they guaranteed it, or talked about leaving the MAC indefinantly then maybe they could be penalyzed.

Nope. Most of were here pre-Temple and activity was pretty similar. Now, Marshall's departure may have caused a dip...

Addazio reveals Temple (among others) is still in conversations regarding expansion...that is good to hear. As others have said on the Expansion board, I think this has a large part to do with the TV contract. Even with lesser attendance than UCF/ECU, a TV contract including the Philadelphia market is worth a lot of $$$.

The BE already has the Philly market with Nova, why do they need Temple? Besides, doesn't Nova have a veto right as BE member?

Hahaha, this may be the best post I have ever seen...

First, you are saying there should be a recruiting violation for lying. If that were the case, every coach in America would have them. "ok John Doe, high school QB and future starter at NIU" Could turn out to be a lie right there.

Next the poster says he hates Temple fans because of a message board...am I the only other one that finds this funny??? It is a message board...

Addazio may have said to these kids that Temple was trying to get in the Big East but these are 17 yr old kids. How much do you think they actually heard when the words "Big East" were said...

In football?

If Temple would be up for membership as a football-only member then just the football schools would have a vote. If Temple was going for all-sports then all schools would vote. Villanova would not have a "veto" power but they definitely would have the other non-football schools voting with them. It is a large reason why Temple was not an all sport member in the early 90's. Villanova would have shot it down and still would...

Don't flatter yourself. This board was active before Temple and will be if the MAC is sans Temple in the future.
FWIW - This is all much ado about nothing. Temple isn't going back to the BE. But, hey, it's good to see somebody's fans step into the mucky void left by the departure of Marshall fans.
