I doubt anyone else would have paid Anderson 2.2 million. Apparently some ex-players convinced Long that he was worth it and could bring back the crowds and excitement from the Nolan era. Maybe they'll end up being right. They weren't going to get a "big name" coach- bringing back someone the fans could identify with was probably the next best thing.
