Who is first going to post that "Murphy is putting MICHIGAN back into Eastern Michigan University baskeball?"
Hmmm.... I may be wrong, but I had him down as a prior EMU commitment that Ramsey had landed.

I believe he has been talked about for say a month, but I thought he always was a Murphy recruit.

Dennis are you out there? 03-idea

I found where I got that...the always unreliable AnnArbor.com.
Quote:Ramsey's other recruit was 6-2 guard Austin Harper, who averaged 15.4 points and 9.9 assists last season at Glen Oaks Community College.
Everything else I see suggests that Murphy signed him in early May.
the kid couldnt cut it a western why should we get excited about him now????
the 2 transfers are worth excitement!!!!!

Maybe we should have 'sourcing' on our posts and anything from the Annarbor.com has to have a second source. 05-stirthepot

That isn't the worst mistake I've seen on the Internet caused by poor editing/proofing.

One headline read:

"Maryland Drivers Have Bad Gas".

Reading the text it seems, that water had sepped into some gasoline storage tanks and eventually the gasoline bought by drivers in the Baltimore area.

Apparently there were some engine problems attributed to it. 03-banghead
I was Googling for the 'gas' quote and found that I posted it before, but back back to the AnnArbor.com.

It seems they got one number very, very wrong:

http://www.annarbor.com/sports/a-year-la...x-gillett/

"Gillett, who was unavailable for comment this week, played in nine games last season, starting in three. His numbers were unremarkable - 68-of-137 passing for 763 yards, three touchdowns and seven interceptions - but as a true freshman on a winless team. Eastern Michigan quarterbacks were sacked 171 times last season. With more experience and another year in English’s system, Gillett expects to have more talent surrounding him, both at the skill and line positions."
My understanding is that Harper is a Murphy recruit, not a Ramsey recruit.

Ramsey referred to a verbal this spring who I think was a kid from Oakland CC locally named Antonio Credit, a 6'7 front court player. It appears that the new staff opted not to offer him/sign him. The new staff did not render the comittmants made last fal to Washington and Tenshamel - both were released from scholarships.

Perhaps Western wasn't a good fit for him...
Harper in IMO has little downside and some good upside. Be careful with his JUCO stats, he had a hot first half and then cooled down. I do like the fact he has three years. We now have four potential candidates for point next year. If Riley is eligible this coming season we could see an improvement in the record. If not the team will be small upfront unless Murphy has another front court player in mind for this coming season.
I think Tenharmsel ended up at Wayne State.

That says something about Ramsey's recruiting success at the end of his EMU career.

Yep.

In 12 months, maybe 6, we'll know if Murphy can keep pulling rabbits out of a hat.

I'm still hoping for one more something, i.e., h.s./juco/transfer to complete this year's recruiting and then see what Murphy can do in November.

Dennis reminds us that Murphy will have a boat load of scholarships to give in November.

If he can continue on this excellent recruiting start who knows where he can take this program.

There is the old adage about success breeds success. (I remember the old N.Y. Yankees, Boston Celtics, Montreal Canadiens, etc. the old everyone wants to play on a winner).

That he went to WMU for a season says nothing about his possibilities at EMU. Transfers are likely to fail, but it seems to have nothing to do with where they came from.

Fennoris Pearson transferred from WMU and became a valuable role player. Torey Mills came from CMU and was a valuable sub.

The best transfer I recall was Marcus Kennedy, who came from Ferris State. He was MAC MVP, leading scorer and I think leading rebounder too.

On the other hand we've had some failures from big schools. Who was the big guy from OSU? Shamir or something like that. Then there was the kid named from Rose, also from OSU and a number two MI Mr. Basketball. He didn't work out.

I think the way to react to transfers is with caution.
Caveat Emptor (SP) or buyer beware.

Yes, have to be careful not to get 'damaged goods' esp. bad students.

BTW, here is video of the new transfers.

You're referring to Shamar Herron and JaQuan Hart. There was also Mosi Barnes from Purdue.
Shamir Herron and Hart were two who didn't work out.

Marcus Kennedy was totally 'blue collar' and a truly amazing short MAC center. He might have been closer to 6'5" then 6' 7".

Marcus came to EMU when MAC hoops was up (BSU was a dominant team which almost beat the NCAA champ, UNLV, in the tourney). Those kids came to play and win and win in the NCAAs.

Will Riley and Bryant have the same 'fire in their belly' and want to go to the NCAAs???
EMU getting noticed. This is a headline from I believe the EMU insiders - not hardly inside news to us on this board:

"EMU becoming a transfer hot spot?"

I believe two paragraphs on the 3 transfers. Also notes that Harper lead JUCOs in assists last season.

NO new scoops.

The rest of the basketball world is learning what we know.
