Jodan Price, a 6'7 forward from Detroit Country Day HS , class of 2012 is being heavily recruited and EMU/Murphy and Co were the 1st team to offer him a scholarship. Hopefully he will visit soon. He is reputed to be one of the best shooters in this years class. Would be a great start for Murphy if we could land him . Lots of scholarships to fill in the class of 2012 and a lot of talent in the state to recruit.

Has 4 mid-major offers but will probably end up going to a conference higher then the MAC.

Hopefully Murphy and staff's recruiting talents will change that!
2 OTHERS THE NEW STAFF UNDER MURPHY THAT HAVE BEEN OFFERRED SCHOLARSHIPS (CLASS OF 2012):

Sherron Dorsey Walker 6'4 wing, Detroit Pershing HS

Barnett Harris 6'10" Forward/Center Monroeville., PA Gateway HS.

Dennis,

If you want a '12 recruiting thread which will stay around, why not craft an 'important' thread and have an admin move it to the important threads?

That will eliminate the 'recruiting thread of the week" posts.

Just indicate you wish to have new recruiting information addended to the thread.

If you want to create another thread for the 2011 class to discuss Harper, other possible '11 recruits, possible transfers, etc. that would also be a good idea, I think. That thread could finish up the '11 recruiting class.
Here is ESPN's list of top Michigan instate players for 2012:

Excellent list.

'79 why don't you pin the list as an 'important thread' so that as we look at '12 in-state recruiting targets we can refer to it.

We can then post to that thread during the year.

Looks like the targets Dennis referred to are pretty highly rated, pre-summer top 10 in MI.
Steve, don't know how do a pin on this board.

But I agree this is a pre summer list and likely to change as summer basketball moves along.

As a note Price and his younger brother and James Young 2013 all visited CMU this past week.

Hopefully someday we'll be reading that top prospects like these are visiting EMU not CMU.

'79:

Just create a new thread, indicate it is an important thread and then ask an admin to promote it to the important thread.

I'd give it a catchy title like "2012 State of Michigan Hoops Targets" and if we want to discuss any kid from the state of Michigan who will be a senior then we can annotate that thread.

BTW, I agree about some good prospects will some day visitng EMU. I get vibes that Murphy is a stronger recruiter then Ramsey. My only fear is that the '11 recruiting train has left the station and maybe a transfer is the best plum recruit we can get. (I like transfers. There are bargins to be had).

2012 could be a good recruiting year for Murphy.

Murphy is potentially a very strong recruiter.

BTW2, I think I need to get our '11 FB recruiting verbals de-promoted.

I'm ready for a '12 FB Verbals thread, but probably won't be any verbals until say early fall.
I don't know what the attraction with CMU would be. I never have been impressed with Ernie Z. He outrecruited Ramsey almost every year since they've were coaches but as the talent goes in at CMU it doesn't seem to develop, in fact alot of it just disappears. I don't see Ernie Z to be much at improving what he brings recruiting including his son.

Murphy's first year will be a good indication of how good he can coach. He has little talent but I think he'll get more out of the players than Ramsey did with the same talent. The guys most impacted will be guys like Janton, Balkema, Harris and Stewart. Murphy has a good rep for developing the centers and power forwards. I think Harris could potentially blossom under Murphy.
What I think:

1). I believe Murphy will completely out coach Ziegler.

2). I believe with a successful season Murphy will outrecruit Ziegler.

The only thing Ziegler has going for him is his son...

If Ernie's last name were Smith, he'd no longer be a HC.

I agree but apparently Ernie is a good used car salesman:

Dennis,

After the haul of Riley and Bryant I'm a LOT less skeptical about these early recruiting stories.

And, of course, both Riley and this kid are from the same high school, although separated by a few years.

Unless the kid is potential B1G (Big Ten) maybe Murphy has a shot.

It certainly will be easier to recruit new talent with Riley and Bryant on board.

EMU hoops recruiting is finally getting interesting again!!

Steve Bell indicates there are not one, but two Price kids, one a rising senior and the other a rising junior.

Which, of course, could mean double the good forune (or double the disappointment).

Murphy having recruited Riey out of Country Day obviously has a good rapport with coach Keener, one of the most highly touted prep coaches in the midwest. Thisshould help Murphy in recruiting Price and other highly touted preps from Country Day, one of the most competitive high schools in Michigan.

I wouldn't be surprised if Price isn't Murphy's #1 recruiting target for '12.
