Quote:The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball program has announced the addition of Darin Thrun as its assistant coach. Thrun comes from Eastern Michigan University, where he spent the past four seasons as the Eagles' assistant coach after spending three years as a member of the Michigan State University women's basketball coaching staff.

"I am extremely excited to add Darin to the coaching staff here at Saginaw Valley," stated SVSU women's basketball head coach Jamie Pewinski, who begins her first season at the helm of the program. "He has a great understanding of the game, has recruited the state of Michigan and is an extremely hard worker. His experiences at his two prior institutions have prepared him to take this step and help turn this program into a consistent winner."

SVSU add Darin Thrun as WBB ass't coach
I suspect Thrun was pushed out as a result of the NCAA violations reported last fall. This seems like a step backward in a coaching career.

Also, I think it's incredibly lazy of MLive to just reprint the press release verbatim.

Agree it seems curious.

Thrun was one of two assistants and behind the associate head coach in the EMU WBB coaching hierarchy. SVSU doesn't doesn't support having that many coaches. They usually have 2 assistant coaches and no associate head coach. He was the new coach's first hire and I believe he will be the top assistant coach at SVSU.
