they will try for youthful offender status to have their sentences reduced.
Heh, they ought to try getting it reduced due to "dumb*** offender" status, they'd have a better chance. College kids are plenty damned old enough to know that burning down six or eight churches will get you thrown in jail, and that's even before you add in the racial aspect of burning mostly black churches in Alabama to the mix.
Idiots. I feel for their families, who I suspect raised them better than that. I don't have much sympathy for the kids themselves.
*edit* StL B, you forgot to mention that the two also owe something like 2.3 million dollars in restitution, and the other guy 1.2 mil or so. Good luck with that.

Not to detract from the thread/post/your point, but they weren't mostly black churches. They were pretty randomly distributed among predominately white and black churches. My mom goes to one of the ones that was burned.
Nod, I knew it was a mix but not the statistics. It really doesn't matter, burning down most anything will get you jailed, churches makes it pretty much a sure thing.
