Two cops go to a guy's house, without warrant, and the guy inside says you can't come in without a warrant. The cops bust the door down, and murder the homeowner.

The ACLU has taken the case on behalf of the murder victim, and has a huge list of charges now going to grand jury against both cops.

Not understanding the headline here. I'm no ACLU basher, but certainly they do some "good" AS WELL as "bad" things in my eyes. This seems like a slam dunk... but wasn't there a recent article where some court decided you didn't have the right to refuse a cop entry? I'd hole the ACLU would pick up on THAT.

Do you think that people who dislike the ACLU think that EVERYTHING they do is wrong? I mean, I'm sure if you looked, you could find some "good" things that the Nazi's did. Maybe not... but maybe.

They get an unnecessarily bad reputation. The bad is always reported on, the good ... not so much.

I applaud the prosecutors who filed the criminal charges against the officers. The ACLU can only file a civil lawsuit seeking monetary damages. The District Attorney's Office is the one who will deliver justice to the family.
i refuse to believe there's not another side to this story. Are you trying to tell me two cops just went just busted into a dude's house and shot him for no good reason? I find that really hard to believe

Lemme know when they start defending Christians who want to pray on government property or teachers who want to read the bible on their own time.

Until then, this isn't anything that anyone with a brain would be against.

Cool?

Oh, and **** the ACLU. They got this one right. That's one.

They busted in on an old lady in Atlanta and killed her because she had a gun. She had a gun because she's in a bad area. The woman was in her, IIRC, late 70's. They had the wrong address. They were looking for a drug dealer. That would be me because I keep a .45 next to my bed, a .380 next to my recliner, and have weapons pretty much stashed throughout the house. I'd die, for nothing other than those retards getting the wrong address.
I have no problem with the ACLU...never have. I abhor some of the clients they have represented...but...I'm glad they are there to defend them. Like them or not...they are consistent. They defend people against civil rights violations. Even the worst of our society deserve that defense...Otherwise...WTF good is America?

...but I guarantee you, some of'em would be on the ascent with me as well.

If there had been a dog inside...these two f'wads would have killed it also. The fact is Swoosh....They had NO business going into the house in the first place without a warrant. Everything else after that is totally moot. I hope this spurs more talk about this issue. The damn cops now think they can do almost anything they want to without any consequences.03-puke

THIS...Is why YOU NEVER ANSWER THE DOOR FOR A COP....unless YOU call them.

But isn't that true of everything? It takes ten "atta boys" to make up for one "oh spit"? and really, unless I'm missing something, this seems like a laydown. I'm betting there are HUNDREDS of attorneys who'd like this case.

The ACLU certainly does good things (in my mind anyway) but they also occassionally defend the indefensible. Most recently, they've argued to extend Constitutional protections to non-citizens... arguably enemy combatants... people operating outside the Constitution. I just don't see that they don't deserve at least SOME of their reputation... not to mention that I suspect like many large organizations... the priorities of the Colorado or Texas Branch may be quite different from the priorities of the Washington or California branches... with locals likely having more support for their local branches.

and Fo... didn't we just have a thread where you weren't allowed to deny them access even without a warrant?? Where is the ACLU on THAT one? Giving civil rights to enemy combatants is just indefensible to me. They deserve "human" rights, but not those rights guaranteed to "we the people". I mean, if THAT is the criteria, then why aren't they suing China and Iran etc etc for violating the civil rights of their people?

That is a tremendously offensive and insensitive thing to say. Between Hitler and Stalin about 40 million dead. Are you out of your freaking mind?

Problem is, that ain't the case with the ACLU. They fk up 99 times, and one time they get it right. Not a good track record, IMO. A nativity scene in the town square violates NO one's rights. If it offends someone, they need to get the hell over it, those intolerant little *******. I thought that's what liberals were all about? Tolerance? I guess it's only tolerance when it's a liberal cause like parades with assless chaps, etc.

His point is, anyone can do something right. Weimar was in shambles with people buying bread with wheelbarrows of currency. He changed that. Don't look any further into it. He was f'ed up and a vicious dictator that shouldn't have died by his own hand, but hey, you asked.

Is the ACLU prosecuting the cops?

No.

Only the DA can prosecute the cops, or anyone else.

ACLU can sue the cops in a civil action, but not prosecute then.

The ACLU or the Nazis?

It's a variant of "Hitler made the trains run on time". I think it's a poorly chosen analogy at best, but not malicious.

This is true. Except for the DMCA (another little nugget Clinton gave us) which gives the power of the DA to corporations. Most prominently subpoena power.

Sum, I'm sorry... I just don't believe you are that offended at this comment. I'm sorry if you are, but I believe the problem rests in your reading something into my comment that I didn't say. If you can't objectively look at atrocities in our history, you can't really learn from them.

Basically, rebel... but you guys are saying "he" and I spoke about a political party.. The party leaders ultimately took the party in a horrible direction... but that doesn't mean that every single thing they did was horrible.... and again, don't read anything more into that. It's sort of like talking about the drunk who runs the red light and kills ten children, but he volunteered at the homeless shelter. It doesn't excuse his bad acts or even in any way mitigate them... it merely says that even people who do the worst things imaginable can also do a few decent things.

This is precisely my point with the ACLU. The fact that they are on the "right" side of this position, doesn't in any way mitigate the times they are on the 'wrong" one. We're not comparing the ACLU to the Nazis... were merely comparing good acts by bad people and bad acts by good ones. As to the poorly chosen analogy,.... The Nazis represent the epitome of bad... Some view the ACLU (at least their ideals) as the ultimate good. SHould I have used Charles Manson and The Pope instead?
