...for its health care management program. US News and World Reports says that, in the Southeast, UAB trumps Duke, Florida, and several other prominent schools.

Now if only this was NCAA basketball we were talking about...

"It will be. It..will..be..."
I am in the program right now and it really is pretty good. The program is actually ranked higher than Hopkins which was 10 I think. The program jumped from 10 to 7 pretty much because they sponsored a national case competition...based on what i understand of how they do rankings and everything.
i just read an article about how many schools (some very prominent) were trying to band together to all boycot the rankings b/c they represent very little and can be twisted very easily by simply filling out the usnews survey in different ways...that having been say...GO UAB! (sorry, im done raining on any parades)
Its a better thing to be ranked top 10 in academics than athletics. That said, we're all familiar with how both types of polls can be full of ****.

But still a good thing :-)
Very happy to see that ranking. However, it is my understanding that recruiters are now looking more towards an MBA with a concentration in Health Care vs the current MHA that is offered. I hope UAB can start to merge the two programs to stay ahead of the market and give our students a better foundation to stand on when entering the job market.

I agree... I'd rather see UAB in the top 10 academically than the top 10 athletically.

But when you look at institutions like Duke, UNC, and Florida that UAB is competitively competing against in research and academics, you have to say to yourself "In time, why can't UAB have both?"

We have a program (M.B.A./M.S.H.A.), but I don't know much about it. I believe its a dual degree, but don't know for sure.

While in the program you have the option of a dual MBA/MSHA path if that is what you want to pursue. You could also pursue a MSHI if you dont want the MBA. From what I understand, recruiters are not looking one way or the other as far as MBA or MSHA. In Birmingham, the MSHA definitely carries more weight than the MBA from UAB. Once you get in the door though, what you have done speaks more than what degrees you have.
