Im 25/male
.....No im not crazy

lol
The more important question is what are you passionate about...and there is your answer. You have to find something that matters to you, or it (likely) won't stick.
St. Jude
Memphis Zoo

If I had the time to volunteer, these are the first two places I would look.
OH...and for a recommendation or two.

Habitat for Humanity (bonus: you actually develop some home repair skills too)
MIFA

Also, check out http://www.volunteermidsouth.org/ for ideas.
^^What 99 said. Also, the Humane Society really needs volunteers if you like pets.

The Liver Foundation, NFT, St. Jude's are all good causes if you want to help raise funds.

If you want to donate your time to help cancer patients, the West Clinic has a volunteer program.

Lots of opportunities, depending on what you are comfortable with doing.
Everyone will accommodate someone thats willing to give their time to help for no pay during this economy. Just think about something you would enjoy doing and do it.
Youth Villages hands down.
you are welcome to volunteer at my house. You can start with the overgrowth on the back 40.
You should be a candy striper.

I'll add Hope House to the list as well...but volunteer memphis is probably the best resource to pick from. They even have a calendar you can refer to for what works with your schedule.
Mpactmemphis.org is a gateway organization for people roughly your age who like to socialize and work on projects that benefit this community. It is very loosely structured with get-togethers and parties to help you meet people who work in all kinds of charitable groups. Mpact does not choose a charity for you, but the members pick charities and bring their experience to the group.

Also, most churches need volunteers for all sort of projects. Calvary Episcopal Church downtown has a lot of outreach projects from which to choose, and you do not have to be a member. They run the HUB which helps all kinds of folks downtown. Also, St. Patrick's Church downtown has a great outreach ministry in their neighborhood. Multi-national Ministries at 1548 Poplar works with families from overseas. Catholic Charities is another good one. WYPL always needs volunteers for their radio station. Friends of the Library does good work. Animal Protection Association is one of my favorites. Juvenile Court needs mentors for its children, as does Big Brothers. I could go on and on, but you have to find what you are passionate about, I agree. The library also has a lot of resources for volunteer opportunities. Good luck! You will find you get more out of volunteering than you will even give.

Oh, the stories I could tell. Don't get me started.

I was a member of Mpact for years....it's more of a 'young professionals/networking' organization than strictly volunteer-oriented, but they do offer a good number of volunteer opportunities.
