Didn't see any mention of this here, but Rivals has us signing a JUCO PG named Austin Harper from Glen Oaks CC. Former 2 star WMU commit, he put up some pretty disgusting numbers at GOCC, averaging 15 pts 10 dimes, with a 56% field goal percentage and 43% from 3 (he was at 65% from 3 through his first 15 games and then hit a bit of a cold spell). Great Lakes Hoops had him as the number 1 JUCO player in the state in January.

Take it FWIW...he could be another Lampley, or he could be an asset to a team that couldn't do squat from 3 last year. At least its something to talk about.

EDIT: here's the rivals link.

Interesting Rivals still has Washington in the mix at EMU but Tenharmsel who signed isn't mentioned.
Would love to know more about why things didn't work out at WMU.
The article left alot of room to read in between the lines.

I hope Washington stays, with Murphy's rep for working with big men and Washington's good work habits it seems a natural match.
Anyone know who else recruited Harper. Seems like a good lead guard candidate. It appears that we will now have 4 PG's on the roster (Sims - could play 2G, Burton, Lampley and now Harper) .Green, Dailey, Thompson, Fosdick are 2 guards. That makes 8 guards on the roster, need some forwards or will Murphy play 2 wings from amoungst the guards? We have 3 post players (Harris, Balkema and Jantzen) and only one true Forward in Stewart.
Is Murphy done recruiting this spring? Hope Not! What will he do for forwards? Either move Harris, utilize Stewart and probably play a lot of two guard offense (Center, forward, 2 wings and a point)

In regards to recruiting, it is possible that he take a transfer this spring, plenty of them out there. One with Michigan connections would be a kid named Wood, a 6'7 forward who left Cleveland Stae. He prepped at East Lansing HS. I'm sure there are some other transfer forwards out there as well.
I'm not clear (is anyone) on if the entire non senior team is coming back.

I'm not clear on the status of Tenharmsel's LOI or whether EMU released Washington's LOI and if so whether Washington is in or out of the mix.

If Tenharmsel and Washington are in and we signed another guard my guess is we are done if there were no roster departures.

We would have three seniors leaving next year and hopefully those scholarships would go to the entire frontcourt.

We'll see how well Murphy can coach this coming season because the talent level is well not there.

Dennis, this is a total rebuild job ala what the Lions started a few years ago with the new coach/front office team.

The Lions have adopted a 'best player' strategy even 3 drafts into the rebuild job.

I would be suprised if Murphy started grabbing at players just because they play a 'need position'.

As you suggest, the type of lineup will be dependent on the available talent.

This is why asking a coach: "what kind of lineup will you play?" isn't fair.

As in poker, got to play the hand you were dealt.
WASHINGTON IS GONE, HAS RESURFACED AT ROBERT MORRIS. TENSHAMEL WAS ALSO RELEASED FROM HIS LOI AS I UNDERSTAND IT. APPARENLTY BOTH WERE NOT DEEMED DIV I RECRUITS BY MR MURPHY.

I HAVE HEARD THAT OTHER THAN FRAZIER, THE REST OF THE ROSTER WILL RETURN IN TACT (WHERELSE WOULD THEY GO?)

BY MY MATH, WE WOULD HAVE 3 SCHOLARSHIPS TO GIVE THIS SPRING. HAVING SIGNED HARPER, WE NOW HAVE 2 TO GIVE. BEING THIS LATE IN THE SPRING RECRUITING SEASON, IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN IF WE SIGN ANY MORE KIDS UNLESS A TRANSFER IS IN THE CARDS.
2011/2012 season will be tough.

Any transfers now won't be eligible until Nov. 2012.

IF the staff holds on to two unused scholarships for Nov. '11 signing period, then the '11/'12 season will really, really be a tough season ala when English embarked on his rebuilding job.

Patience will be an absolute virtue for the staff and fans!!
BTW, I'm not sure that coaches are unhappy if their coaching win stats are as follows over their first four years:

5, 9, 13, 17...

When a coach starts at the bottom moving up the ladder is a good thing!

10, 9, 14, 11 "not too good"...

Both 'scenarios' are 44 Ws over 4 years, a rather modest win today.
Wonder if Harper's signing will even merit a athletic press release.

Also as far as I now there hasn't been any formal annoucement on the women's basketball signings either.
HOPEFULLY AN ANNOUNCEMENT SOON. ALSO INFO ON NEW COACHES SHOULD BE COMING UP.

AS OF NOW, HOOPS HAS BEEN VERY QUIET, SIMILAR TO THE RAMSEY ERA.

LETS HOPE FOR SOME ANNOUNCEMNETS SOON!

P.S. STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO BESIDES EMU OFFERRED HARPER???
I'm even more surprised about the lack of signings for the women's team. You think you would want to build the interest after the great season they had. I posted info from ESPN a while back about two Chicago area players.
I'm sure they'll wait to make the announcements until the classes are complete

You are correct, KPJ.

EMU doesn't just dribble out (pun intended 03-lmfao) announcements.

They'll announce all of the spring signees for a particular sport (e.g., men's hoops, women's hoops, etc.).
They announced the men's fall basketball signings but not the women's.

So yes they do more than one annoucement re recruiting classes.

Look at football. There's the major signing day annoucement and periodic releases on new players added.

Actually, not.

I double checked the football press releases. There was the signing day and then one supplemental to announce Wilbert Mitchell.

The actual text sounds more like an addendum.

Matter of fact, it takes the original signing day release and annotates with a leadin that there is one more signee.

P.S. I hope we get another addendum. English is still trying to give one last scholarship.
This year is not the only year for football signing Steve, try past years as well under English.
