I do not want to give the details because I want unbiased answers, but there was a tackle on Steve Zakuani tonight and I am curious what people's thoughts are about it.

Check it out, let me know.

Ricardo Clark got a 10 game suspension for kicking Carlos Ruiz in the arm. I would imagine Mullan will get something like that.
WTS, I'm sure Birmingham City is lining up a transfer bid for Mullan now that he has shown he can give a dirty tackle up to their high standards.
Very reckless. He deserves a long ban for that tackle.
Wasn't sure if the fact I'm a huge Sounders fan was getting in the way of rationality. I am hoping for a long ban for Mullan.
man. just trash. should be parked for a long time for sure.
Yikes. The floppy leg post tackle is always stomach turning.

Mullan was frustrated at losing the ball, and lost his mind. I don't care if it's a habit (see Nigel de Jong) or an isolated incident, he should get at least 10 games.
He will get three games. It wasn't that bad of a tackle, in all honesty. He just go stuck in late and I think the injury and the sound make things appear worse than it was.

Agreed with the frustration point.

Without even looking at the tackle, per se, what led up to it (bitching about a non-call/losing the ball), makes it look pretty bad.

Throw in the resulting broken leg, and the whole incidend looks pretty bad for Mullan.
Did the turf play a role in the break?
Nine game suspension and $5000 fine: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/ml...nine-games

Isn't that a 10 game suspension?

This means he'll be back in time for Colorado @ Seattle on July 16th, that should be very interesting....
Yeah, I guess it would be ten total. One for the card itself, and nine extra. How long is Zakuani out?

Was airlifted to closest hospital for emergency surgery. Nothing is official yet but they said he could possible be back for the playoffs if we made a deep run (October-November)
About that tackle, and particularly the sound it made:
When I was a Jr. in high school I pretty much got drafted for the soccer team (my football position coach was the head soccer coach and pretty much made me.) I had played youth soccer from 6-12, but hadn't played it in a few years. Even so, I quickly became, by high school standards, a fairly good CB with good size, speed, and most importantly, a good knack for positioning that just came naturally to me. Late in the third to last game of the regular season I was pushed up towards midfield when the other team cleared the ball skywards towards my direction. I went up for the ball with one of their forwards who was about 6 inches shorter and 70 pounds lighter than me. He mistimed his jump and had already landed when I came down sort of on top of him. His cleat got stuck into the ground and I came down on his leg not too far above the ankle and broke both the bones in his leg. It sounded like a shotgun had gone off. I fell in a heap on top him, and looked down as I rolled off and saw what had to be the jagged tip of a bone pushing through his now bloody sock.
He was thrashing his upper body and screaming in pain, and I just sat there two feet away just staring at his leg for what seemed like 10 minutes but was probably just a few seconds. I faked that I had rolled my ankle, limped off the pitch, felt like I was going to puke, and never played another organized soccer game again. I never forgot that sound, but never heard it again until watching that clip.
