While Solo's shot was great, I can't agree that its was the greatests shot in UALR history. To me, the greatest shot in UALR history is still the combination of Derek Fisher's inbound lob to the basket for Derrick Creighton to flush it down at the horn to beat #8 ranked Mississippi State on the road. Solo's shot did get the Trojans into the NCAAs, but as you point out, that shot was just the last in a combination of pretty incredible things that happened in the last 30 seconds of that game. In the Mississippi State game, Fish had been clobbered a couple of times trying to score before the final shot. We were just lucky that the ball kept going off MSU to let us have a final shot that couldn't be denied.

I agree. It's the greatest in my mind. Probably Derrick Creighton's only memorable moment as a Trojan. I thought we were beaten when we inbounded the ball. I guess Yogi knew what he was talking about.

I was at both games and there really is no comparison. The win against Mississippi State was great, but was seen by the 8000 people at the game and that's about it. Didn't even help us get an NCAA bid. It was a great play, but it was a tip-in that Derrick Crayton almost couldn't have missed if he tried. The game was also tied and would have gone to OT if he missed.
Solo hit a tough, step back 3 pointer with an NCAA bid on the line. He misses it we lose, he makes it we go to the NCAA tournament. It was also on national tv and probably seen by well over 100,000 Arkansans and millions across the USA. Biggest single shot in UALR history, without a doubt.

The shot at Mississippi State was shown on ESPN, but it was a grainy hard to see version that wasn't good for television. You have to remember that back in those days, not all college basketball games had video like they do today. I would guess that the only film of that shot was the MSU crew filming for practice.
My point in all of this is not that Solo's wasn't a great shot, because it certainly was and was very significant. It just didn't have the difficulty that the final play at Mississippi State did. That shot was far more than just a tip in that Creighton couldn't miss. The timing had to be just right, and Fish's inbound lob had to be perfect. And MJS, do you really believe that we would have been allowed to win that game in overtime?

No one but UALR die-hards even know about the shot at MSU. PTJR, myself, and a few others were there. It was a great moment. Who made the winning shot at Mississippi State? Take a poll at a UALR game and I doubt 100 fans could give you the answer. I doubt anyone outside of Little Rock (except possibly the MSU coach at the time) could answer the question. Solo's shot will be remembered by UALR fans for years and probably a few UNT fans as well.
