in UALR history, but if D'Andre doesn't steal the ball from Josh White and make those first two free throws, the game is over. D'Andre won't play in the NBA, but he could end up being one of our best point guards ever.
With the confidence he gained this year, he should be a real go to guy this next season. I look for him to be an outstanding scoring point guard.01-lauramac2

Double ditto.
Who was the last PG under Shields that was a scoring machine?
Graber
Not under Shields, but I guess our last real scoring point guard was Fish.

While Solo's shot was great, I can't agree that its was the greatests shot in UALR history. To me, the greatest shot in UALR history is still the combination of Derek Fisher's inbound lob to the basket for Derrick Creighton to flush it down at the horn to beat #8 ranked Mississippi State on the road. Solo's shot did get the Trojans into the NCAAs, but as you point out, that shot was just the last in a combination of pretty incredible things that happened in the last 30 seconds of that game. In the Mississippi State game, Fish had been clobbered a couple of times trying to score before the final shot. We were just lucky that the ball kept going off MSU to let us have a final shot that couldn't be denied.
Granted that was great, but the importance of Solo's shot seemingly outweighs a single game win over Miss State, although they were highly ranked at the time. But I believe the miracle shot in Hot Springs tops them all.

I agree. It's the greatest in my mind. Probably Derrick Creighton's only memorable moment as a Trojan. I thought we were beaten when we inbounded the ball. I guess Yogi knew what he was talking about.

While both were thrilling, I have to go with Solo's because of its impact which, I hope, will be longlasting.

I too hope that Solo's will have a long lasting effect. However, it comes nowhere close to the degree of difficulty that the last play at Mississippi State had. A tough shot for Solo yes, but come on, remember the situation and odds with that inbound play. It was one in probably more than a hundred.

We won't have to wait long to see how long lasting the effect of Solo's shot has though. If we go back to very so so, especially grinder ball next year, it will fade quickly. I sure hope that is not the case. But, I will need to see more than just a hot four game run in the tournament to make me believe we have turned the corner, and quality ball has returned to Little Rock on a regular basis. I remember that we entered the SBC tournament with a losing conference record and as the #5 seed out of 6 from the west.

I agree with 100 percent of what you say in your post, but even if teh effect is not longlasting, a must shot to accomplish what Solo and his teammates and coaches and many of our fans deem the only meaningful accomplishment a team can achieve in a season has to be greater than any one game, no matter who the opponent.
Both were great moments for Trojan fans. Hard to diminish the effect of either, but I think Solo's shot, and it was incredible as I've watched it many times since the game, has the possibility of helping the program to turn the corner. We have assets now that we didn't have back then, such as The Jack, more student's living on or around campus. Things we didn't have in those days to take advantage of things like that. And how many people, other than we diehard Trojan fans, even knew anything about that win over Miss State? Probably not many. But nearly every sports fan in Central Arkansas knows about our tournament win and NCAA appearance. That's why I believe Solo's shot was more important to the overall progress of our program than Derreck Creightons. And when you add to the fact that Solo had already been named POY in the Sun Belt, and then makes the play of the tournament, it all adds up to a great moment in Trojan history. I recall Jeff saying after the game that this opens recruiting doors to players we've never been able to get in with before. How it plays out remains to be seen, but on the surface it seems like a great opportunity.

I was at both games and there really is no comparison. The win against Mississippi State was great, but was seen by the 8000 people at the game and that's about it. Didn't even help us get an NCAA bid. It was a great play, but it was a tip-in that Derrick Crayton almost couldn't have missed if he tried. The game was also tied and would have gone to OT if he missed.

Solo hit a tough, step back 3 pointer with an NCAA bid on the line. He misses it we lose, he makes it we go to the NCAA tournament. It was also on national tv and probably seen by well over 100,000 Arkansans and millions across the USA. Biggest single shot in UALR history, without a doubt.
Hey. We finally found something upon which we could agree.

Beating MSU was nice. But no way was it as meaningful as the shot Solo hit with time running out and a trip to the NCAA on the line. MSU win meant nothing except we beat a SEC team. Jim is right, all of you measure a successful season on post season play. By God we got to the NCAA on Solo's last second shot. That shot was all over ESPN for days. It doesn't get any better than that. How about the shot at MSU, how many replays did it merit on ESPN.

The shot at Mississippi State was shown on ESPN, but it was a grainy hard to see version that wasn't good for television. You have to remember that back in those days, not all college basketball games had video like they do today. I would guess that the only film of that shot was the MSU crew filming for practice.

My point in all of this is not that Solo's wasn't a great shot, because it certainly was and was very significant. It just didn't have the difficulty that the final play at Mississippi State did. That shot was far more than just a tip in that Creighton couldn't miss. The timing had to be just right, and Fish's inbound lob had to be perfect. And MJS, do you really believe that we would have been allowed to win that game in overtime?

No one but UALR die-hards even know about the shot at MSU. PTJR, myself, and a few others were there. It was a great moment. Who made the winning shot at Mississippi State? Take a poll at a UALR game and I doubt 100 fans could give you the answer. I doubt anyone outside of Little Rock (except possibly the MSU coach at the time) could answer the question. Solo's shot will be remembered by UALR fans for years and probably a few UNT fans as well.

So does a work of art, viewed by few, make it less of a work than a work viewed by many? I think not.
Depends on the few viewing it.

True enough. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
