season, we'll remember Solo, Alex and Matt, along with a few others, as the kids who moved this program to a higher level. They achieved an ultimate level of success that eluded many of our great players over the past twenty years. An NCAA appearance. Let's hope their dedication and hard work will pave the way for our program to continue moving in an upward direction in the future. They will be sorely missed and I for one wish them great success in their future endeavors.01-lauramac201-lauramac201-lauramac2
Here's hoping.

It's amazing what a difference one fortunate shot from behind the arc can make . . . turn a mediocre season into one that could pave the way for our program to continue moving in an upward direction in the future.

It all depends on if the players who stepped up at the end of the season will still improve, and how good the recruits are. Two promising classes back to back always helps.

Yes, Steve instantly became a better coach when that shot went in. Much better than when he won 23 games a couple of years ago. Just think how good a coach he would be now if Matt had gone 2 for 10, instead of 1-10, against Ashville.

How good would he have been if Matt had missed that big three to get them back in the game when they were down about seven inside a minute or so? He might have been headed back to Texas. As good a coach as Solo made him when he hit the big shot, he'll be expected to be even better next year with the Saviour coming in.

Solo's shot may have saved Shield's job. That and ASU's Finn getting hurt and not playing in the tournament.

Steve's job was never in jeopardy. Haven't you been saying that more than anybody? Now he just got himself a nice extension.

Not more than you have. I think he's in for life now, but had he gone out early in the tournament, as he usually does, and had another losing year(regular season sub .500), we don't know what would have happened.

See, we do agree on something.
I think we can get a good 25 more years from Coach.

Extension? On the already long contract that he had? Are you sure?

Although I was as thrilled and suprised as anyone when the #4 in the West seeded Trojans were the suprise winner of the SBC Tournament, it certainly doesn't make last year a great year by any means. Of course I was really pleased to see the 20+ year drought of no NCAA appearances end, but let's not forget how forgettable a whole lot of last season was.

Was Steve's job in jeapardy and did Solo's shot save it? I seriously doubt it. But there is no question that expectations will be higher next year and sooner or later, Steve's teams will have to start living up to expectations. Not just in a four game run in the SBC tournament, but for the year as a whole.

Jeopardy is not the right word. "Under review" probably is. The 19 wins and the NCAA appearance probably got him out from under immediate review.
I think there is a review every year, regardless of what the team does. It's doubtful that his job is in any sort of jeopardy for at least two or three more seasons. He could retire here.
