according to the Knoxville newspaper, Josh Pastner is n their short list. I don't think this will happen and I think Memphis is a better job. But if Pastner did go to to the Vols....can you imagine the meltdown in Memphis??? To lose Cal to UK and Pastner to their in-state rival. wow
That would suck dirt! But I'm like you, I don't see Pastner leaving for the other side of the State.
I'm not big on schadenfreude, but after seeing some of the Memphisters puffing their chests about "next year" after going 0-1 in the tournament, I'm beginning to think another dose of humility may be in order. 05-stirthepot
I don't see him going, either, but throw enough jing at somebody...
If you thought Josh had a hard time controlling the kids at Memphis, just wait until he gets a hold of the kids Pearl has been recruiting.
Again I dont think he would go or be their first choice.....just saying he may be on the list.
When Memphis was looking to replace Calipari, it was reported that Memphis came after Pearl. I remember for small window of time, empty.org was awash with the praises of Pearl, about what a great coach and person he was and how he would be a great hire for the Tigers. When Pearl strung them along to get a raise, and then denied interest, empty.org went back to hating him.

I could easily see the reverse happening. The only difference is I am not sure that the big money people in Memphis are convinced Pastner is the right person and might not be willing to ante up as much...yet.

Easiest way to convince the big money people that Pastner is the right person is for Tennnessee to offer him a big contract. Pastner is also on Oklahoma's short list.

I guess I look at it like "is so and so school a better job now or could it be a better job in the future?". Tennessee is certainly not a better job now and isn't in the future either. They play in the SEC East against Kentucky, Vandy and Florida. It would be much harder to rebuild with those teams stepping on you. Tennessee is losing a lot of players this year and don't really have but one recruit that will probably keep his committment. Add the possibility of loss of scholarships and other sanctions and not many coaches will want to walk into that situation.

Not happening. Memphis is twice the job UT is.
Agreed. Insert you favorite UTK Joke.

You may think that and I may think that, but who knows what these kids today might do. We all made bad career choices when we were younger. Pastner is young enough that he might make a bad career move.

Who knows with these kids today.
Pastner will probably leave for Arizona at some point, but until that job becomes available I see him staying put at Memphis. Then again, maybe I'm just being naive.
I don't see Sean Miller leaving anytime soon.
I don't see any "big name" coach going to Knoxville as long as Mike Hamilton is still AD there.

Me neither, but apparently Pitt fans aren't happy, and if they ever fire Dixon, Miller will be their choice.
Anybody would be crazy to leave Arizona for Pittsburg. Arizona is a much better program. Better weather and you don't have mess in the Big East to deal with.
True, but apparently it's his dream job. Atleast that's what I've read. Not sure if it's his ala mater or not.

It is. He was born and raised in PA, and played at Pitt. He is the career assist leader there.

Coincidentally, I have heard that UT has their eyes on Jamie Dixon. I'd say it's a pipe dream, but you never know.
