ECU just asked & received permission to expand stadium to 58,000.
They just renovated the stadium so this past season they were able to hold 50K, and now they are going to expand 8K more seats. Thats awesome IMO, but where exactly is the expansion taking place when talking about the stadium it's self??? They ( ECU ) closed in one of the open end section for the big renovation are they going to add some to the other open end section???
Just an educated guess; the press box will be rebuilt with suites and seats higher up on the home side.

You are right, on the pressbox side they will add an upper deck along with a new pressbox.
Yeah they are going to put a matching upper deck on the other side, along with suites and a new press box. It's been needed for quite a while. Don't know a real timetable on this, but assuming attendance stays near 50k i'll guess a couple of years from now.
congrats!
I would expect to see more of a push on this after completion of the basketball practice facility.

I've been seeing this for a while now. It looks like ECU's projected cost will be in the $30 million range, if this athletic expansion is for the stadium. There's an advertisement for bids of $30,543,139 listed twice; once for 5/13/11 and another for 12/6/11. I wouldn't think the project would be $60million+, but I don't know. That's an awful lot.

Anyway, I don't think it would matter at all to the Big East, but good for us Pirates!04-cheers

Yeah the BE's stance on ECU has been very clear, but all we can do is keep bettering ourselves. At some point our hard work and commitment will pay off.

Well it matters to the BE if you become part of the conference soon. Great fans at ECU, congrats on the stadium expansion.

Obviously it would matter to the BE then, but it doesn't change any of the fundamental things that the BE thinks are wrong with us. It increases a strength that the BE already has decided doesn't really matter to them.
Congrats on the stadium expansion.

BTW, how did Ruffen recover from his surgery?
He's doing well and lost a ton of weight so far. Look for yourself. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, he looks alot thinner. Good for him. Good luck this year. Except against us. 05-stirthepot
Congrats... Hopefully this trend does continue. If ECU is packing in 60-65k every week, there is no way that the Big East can deny them access.

Thanks animus. I'm with bondjohns though; the positives that ECU has to offer are not what is important to the Big East. It is what it is. We're doing it for us, not the Big East.

Totally understandable. You're taking the right steps of moving up in the college football world is what I'm getting at.

We are trying to improve all the things we can control, but the issue is the things out of our control are probably what will keep us on the outside forever. I'm not convinced any number of fans in the stands will change the BE's opinion on ECU, and baring some monumental shakeup in the college football landscape no other openings are coming.

I was just thinking the same thing. I will not be surprised that when we go to 12 teams that they are not:

Central Florida
East Carolina
Villanova or Memphis or Houston

04-cheers
If ECU continues to upgrade themselves then I'd like to see ECU, Temple, and Memphis but that's my opinion. 07-coffee3
