Cubit made some good friends in this deal. You guys should benefit from it in the future. Really glad to see it worked out. AJ is a great kid.

The painstaking recruiting odyssey of Armwood WR A.J. King formally will end Tuesday evening in the Hawks' field house when he signs his letter of intent with Western Michigan.

King and FB Kyle Wilcox, spurned by Princeton before committing earlier this week to Penn, will sign their paperwork at a small evening ceremony, Hawks coach Sean Callahan said.

The signature will end a recruiting process far more bitter than sweet for King. He committed to Purdue before tearing a knee ligament in the Hawks' preseason game against Middleton and essentially missing his entire senior year.

As recently as early December, he visited Purdue and seemed assured the Boilermakers' scholarship offer remained intact. Shortly thereafter, Callahan said Purdue coach Danny Hope asked King to take a "grayshirt," meaning he couldn't enroll or participate with the team until 2012.

With King's future in limbo, Western Michigan entered the picture in the recruiting season's 11th hour, offering King a scholarship early last month. Callahan, who says he'll no longer allow Purdue coaches on his campus, had nothing but praise Thursday for Broncos coach Bill Cubit.

"It's nice to work with somebody whose word means something and they stand by it," Callahan said.

"After talking to (King) on the phone, (the WMU coaches) knew he was a quality young man. He's a qualifier, they're not concerned about his ACL because they know he's going to come back even better. ... I realize (Cubit) went out of his way to help us, and that's something I'll never forget."

Good news!! A.J. is a good player, and it certainly is nice to have a quality connection to a program like Armwood. Good job coach Cubit.

And thanks for the info Bullshark
Only thing you have in recruiting at our level is ur word. Nice to keep getting confirmation that a good man is at the helm.
Surprising news, from what I had heard he was all but written off (poor test scores and such)
Looks like Cubit made a nice impression on Armwood's coach....good move....Armowood pumps out D1 talent year after year.
Excellent!

Cubit and Co. have done a great job recruiting lately... now let's hope they can coach all this talent, finally win the MAC and, for the love of god, BEAT CENTRAL!
Second the Central thing. Serious.

Yeah, they had a DE that Western was in on as well. Lots of good programs down there, and this is just as good as any to have an "in" with.
Hope A.J. can come in and make an impact at WMU. Glad to see BC and staff making inroads to other good programs in Florida. I don't really care where kids come from, just that they have talent and good character.

We can never have too many talented receivers.
The depth is going to be important for Carders senior year. Assuming that 2 or 3 of them redshirt this year, its going to be up to Ponder, Schaeffer, Johnson, Roberts, etc....to take over.

After Carder leaves, its going to be interesting to see who takes over. I have a feeling its going to be Mike Perish. While TVT is ahead of him at this point, Perish can move around a little bit, and was actually probably the most highly regarded QB WMU has recruited in a while. Hopefully York, Bynes, Roberts, Keith and King can begin to develop a relationship with him.

One thing that we have lacked since Cubit has been here is a great return man. Remember the days we had Rashad McDade and I can't remember the other one we had around that same time frame. B. West was good, but he was never a threat to take it all the way. Anyway, what I am getting at is hopefully Bynes can be that threat with all the speed he possesses.
If King gets healthy (and this is legit) this is the best class of WR's ever to enter WMU.
I remember McDade. I liked Josh Bush back there too on punts.

Dont count out Justin Currie on kickoff returns. The kid can fly.
So my question is, with spring practice already starting.... when do I get to see king?
Summer.. he will likely continue therapy and stuff for his knee here before reporting with the rest of the incoming guys in July or whenever it is.
Will he be red shirted? with the WRs already in the system we don't need him to play.

Most definitely.. he'll have to learn the whole system on top of continuing to get back to full strength.
Definitely don't need to rush him any.
I say FWIW that it depends on what the coaching staff promised him during recruiting. If they promised him PT his first year then i think he should get it, if not, see how he progresses. Of courses its better for us if he waits a year but i do believe in promises. I'm NOT SAYING he was promised ANYTHING just saying that recruiters should keep their word and by keeping our word we will get more players like this who are looking for quality, honest programs. Just my 2 cents anyways.
Promises, smomises.

Playing time isn't earned with promises. It should be strictly performance and conformance to the standards of the program.

I don't think our recruiters would promise anything other than a fair competitive shot at earning a place on the depth chart.

You don't say to anyone, come here and I guarantee you playing time.
I agree Ernie, i guess i should have clarified. If they promised him "a shot" at PT he should be able to fight for a spot rather than being made to take a "shirt" without the opportunity. Thats what i was trying to say. Obviously if you're not the top of the depth chart you don't deserve to play, period.
