What a great send-off! A 47 point loss at home! Bye Seniors, and take old man Ingle with you. This team is official in joke status.

Ouch...I guess the good news is that we have set up the most improbably first round victory in all of college basketball. A 47 point loss followed up by beating that same team in the 1st round of the conference tournament...ANYONE WITH ME????!!!!

crickets......crickets.....

47 points is a lot of points. You would think that Belmont would call off the dogs at some point. Is 30 points not enough? Really glad I didn't witness this one.
Hard to call off the dogs when you play all 12 guys on a regular basis. In all fairness Bruins were using the shotclock under 5 mins and we don't really have "bench" guys to put in.

Glad they hit the 3 at the end. 47 looks a lot better than 50.
I don't remember a time, off the top of my head, in which a team has lost by more points than the total number of points they scored. I knew it was going to be bad when we were only able to score 16 in the first half. I have to give Belmont's PGs props. They were the most aggressive PGs I've seen all season. I can't even count how many steals they had. There's a reason they've won 27 games. That D was nasty. Pretty much knowing we were going to get blown out, they're actually an entertaining team to watch. They have my vote. Regardless of where they end up (NIT or Big Dance), I'll be rooting for them to represent our conference well. I will even go out on a limb and say that they are the best team to ever come out of this conference (since I've been watching) for postseason play.

I just hope we make a game out of it next week. Nothing tonight showed me that we will, but anything can happen.
Belmont is incredible this year. 2 Weeks ago I was watching a Vanderbilt game on TV and they put up Vanderbilt's key wins this season on the screen, and Belmont was 1 of 5 teams they listed. Belmont is certainly on the rise right now. Coach really has a handle of the program.

It's the only game this year that I saw Byrd sit down and quit coaching. Usually, he keeps his guys playing hard and uses the fluff times for coaching moments.

He also used Adam Barnes, our walk-on, as a point guard in the end. I have never seen him play the point. Byrd just ran out of players to send in to call off the dogs.
In all seriousness, no kidding, trashtalking or anything else, Tony Ingle is over his head at the Division I level. He proved he was a competitive coach in D-II, and should look for a coaching position at a school in Division II. For Kennesaw to improve and be the program you should be by now in basketball, that's what it's going to take. And I'll be honest, I think KSU should go for an experienced re-tread, ie a "Murry Bartow/Buzz Peterson" type. It will take someone with a little notoriety, a name if you will just to get your students fired up, and maybe win some fans. I hope in the short time you have left in the A-Sun it does happen, so when the invite and jump to the Big South comes, you guys will be competitive enough to compete with Coastal Carolina and Winthrop. (Coastal brought in Cliff Ellis after Buzz left, and he's got the Chanticleers playing lights out)
I guess the short way of saying this is KSU needs a Division I foundation, in basketball, you don't really have it.
Thanks Buck-lover for your great insight. I agree with your statement that Tony Ingle is a good DII coach but over his head in DI. I would also say that most of the fans that we have would agree with that statement. I would love to see him retire on his own accord after Belmont destroys us in a week, but I doubt that will happen (Tony Leaving). So it looks like KSU will have at least one more year of Ingle mediocrity. Then his contract expires and hopefully the new AD we will bring in over the summer will higher a new coach. This is not only a problem for our basketball team, we have other sports that are still holding on to our great DII coaches that are struggling with the transition. Fortunately for KSU we have a large student population, a vastly improving retention rate, the beginnings of an active Alumni base, and the strong possibility of football in the near future. Hopefully the leaders of KSU will continue to dream big and use these advantages to build not only a better Basketball program, but an energetic fan base and a strong overall athletic program.
I will never quit my ticket on the Tony Ingle bandwagon :) I think I am sitting in the only seat left, but I will continue to believe that he will bring us back next year if given the chance.
Belmont is set up to dominate this league...it will be up to the rest of the league to rise to their level, or be steamrolled by 47 points :) It really is a great thing to be honest. I am glad that Belmont has taken their program to another level. It will force us to do the same..just like it will force the rest of the league.
11-18 overall and 6-12 in the CAA. That's what it took for Rod Barnes to be fired at Georgia State. What will it take for Ingle? What about 8-22 overall and 6-14 in the A-Sun? Oh wait...that was THIS season's record. How can it not be coming? I mean I like the guy I really do, but I just don't see how we can get anymore out of this.
Remember who his assistant coaches were when they won the D-2 championship Coach Matta and the current Southern Poly coach Steve Jones. The game has passed this man by. He has no control over this team. And by the way we only have ONE play. Guess what that is
I'm torn on the topic of Tony Ingle. YES he's been terrible statistically. Always below .500 overall, and one time was exactly .500 in conference (first year). We have to remember that Kennesaw State is a brand new D1 program. I think some guys on here made very unrealistic expectations over the past few years. Claiming that Kennesaw would be dominating ETSU in a few years, etc...

I was thinking about it tonight, and North Florida hasn't broken .500 in conference either. They went 10-10 ASUN this season (arguably on the rise).

It's hard to say if it's Ingle, or just a product of being a new team.

Ultimately you have to let Ingle go, but there's plenty to argue against it.
I liked the Title of our Post Game Recap against Belmont:

"Owls tripped up by Belmont"

That is about as inaccurate a description as you could possible make for that butt whoopin. I think even Ingle would agree with that. Nothing Belmont did could be described as a 'trip up'. They were the better team, and they proved it.
UNF made a coaching change... Aside from the ribbing I've given you guys over the years, KSU should be a perennial top four, top five team in the league by now. Just recruiting leftovers in Georgia that can ball, giving them scholarships on top of lottery dollars they get too. Kennesaw and Ga. State both have recruiting advantages, especially over those mongloids in Statesboro. Maybe you don't fire Coach Ingle, but definitely move him on into an administrative role of some sort.

An interesting read. Also note that their attendance was 915 per game this year. That grass is not always greener when you get there my friends.

Beat you to it Nick, but that's what I am saying. What is it going to take before we see Ingle go? I think we probably have a better attendance average than Georgia State, but not by much. Maybe we'll hear some news after the new AD is hired later this spring.

As a complete side bar, at last Thursday's game against Lipscomb, I could've swore I saw Billy Knight. If you're not sure who he is, he was the GM for the Hawks before Rick Sund took over. NOBODY liked him. I mean I could've been seeing things, but it was weird to see him down courtside (in Waples old spot) for that game. After what he did (or didn't to) to the hawks, I sure hope he doesn't become our AD. Anybody got any word on him?
Thanks Escalade. I've lost a lot of interest in KSU MBB suffering through these bad years. I'm still kicking but it's going to take a big turnaround to start showing up to conference games again like I've done in the past.
Billy Knight is a friend of Ingle's so it is not surprising to see him at the game.
