50,402 posts for ETSU. The next nearest school is Kennesaw with over 6000. Florida Gulf Coast has 23. What does this say about ETSU athletics? Is there power in these numbers? How should it be used? Do these numbers represent a bunch of ETSU kooks who are meaningless?
It is fairly meaningless, it certainly does not represent community support. We are a core group of I would guess less than 50, who make frequent posts.
It's an intriguing question, Mister. I haven't had the time nor energy to compare this to other forums, but I'm guessing our activity level is comparable to the big boys, especially when you adjust for the size of our University, alumni base, etc.

I think it speaks to the passion of our core fans. If the forum was meaningless, the athletic department wouldn't be monitoring its activity and content.
interesting question. would be interested in knowing the number of unique posts (i.e. - does this board have 50 people who are posting numerous times, or is this 750 people posting a few times). not sure you can make too much of the numbers without further detail. in any case - do believe you could make a pretty solid argument that ETSU has a core of passionate fans.

by the way - go bucs, beat belmont!
I think it shows ETSU does have a strong following of passionate fans. Even when we were in the Socon and using the old Soconhoops board we had probably double or triple the amount of posts of the Davidson, UNCG, Furman, C of C and Chattanooga boards. During football season GSU and App probably had more than us but not during basketball.

If Gold, Pitt and GoBucsGo were still posting here we have even more, since those 3 are probably our most outspoken posters. Also I haven't seen The Doctor around lately either. I hope we haven't lost all of these posters.
I for one think ETSU is wasting this resource...like so many other things ETSU wastes in athletics. The Bucs need to harness this thing...promote it and use it as a resource. etsubucs.com doesn't offer dialogue. This is it. The department should be posting here often... there should be discussions with the leaders here. This would be a great place for promotions and ticket deals. There ought to be a fan of the month. This is the place for interaction. Imagine if ETSU showed respect to this site and it grew to an army that could be used in spreading the gospel about Buc athletics. What if poster ideas were implemented as financially possible? I could go on and on...but you get the idea. It's to bad this site is for knowledge and entertainment purposes only. This site needs to be harnessed. What if the athletic department had discussion that was hosted here on how to make the most of this. This would help ETSU think outside the box.

I'll close by making what some would consider a radical statement. There are smart people who post on here who have good ideas that just seem to be going to waste. No question that great coaching advice has been posted...and when you see it implemented...sometimes it works.

Two heads are better than one is a philosophy I've heard. I believe it. If and idea stinks, you don't use it...but every now and again there is an idea that changes everything...brings you to a new level.

I love this quote..."It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit."

But remember, C of C, Davey, Appy, and Chattanooga, at least, had their own (main) boards on other sites...........

I agree that it would be nice if things could work in partnership. (And an idea like "fan of the month" is a great one!) But (and as I've said before I don't mean to get all "catch more flies with honey"), I don't see respect coming FROM this site TO the "powers that be" at ETSU. I know, someone is probably going to comment that they don't deserve respect, they don't do much that's right, this is all-out war, etc.

If that's really what most of us really think, I don't see how the good folks who post at this site are going to get much respect from 'em. It's fine to disagree, but sometimes we're just plain disagreeable.

Putting the shoe on the other foot for a moment, one might wonder how many of us would take what may be intended as constructive criticism from people who (correctly or not) think they can do our jobs better than us, think we're total idiots, and don't hesitate to say so in terms of calling us names, etc.

No, I'm not a minion and I've not drunk the kool aid. I just think sometimes folks here shoot themselves in that foot. OK, fire away - at me and/or your own foot.

Oh yeah I was referring to those when I made the post, and not their soconhoops board, as I remember we had more traffic/posts than any of those except for maybe Appy and GSU during football season.
I may be wrong, but I don't think we've ever surpassed the Chatt board in terms of volume.......or certainly not double or treble......
Just a gut feel; not looking it up.......

Totally concur.

You certainly may be correct on that. I know they have more volume than us now. I forgot how many different categories their board has, so it's quite possible they always had more. All I ever read was the posts in the basketball category, so they probably did have more activity now that I think about it.
I loved seeing the Chattanooga people in Asheville in the ole Southern Conference days. There was respectful hate. I stayed with them at our hotel, we became friends despite the bitter rivalry. We had some serious shoutdown competitions at Fuddruckers. You all can guess what my nickname was to pick up the food... "Mister Jennings, your order is ready." Heads would turn...could it be? Nah...that's some old white guy.

For all you ASun supporters...lets see a rivalry develop at restaurants in this league. The ASun tournament is a ghost town for fans. The dumb conference is just to spread out for people to drive to the tournament. Macon is probably geographically the best place. I'm going to find a way to attend this year because I think it could be special...and several Buc posted here last year that it was a good time.
The SoCon tournament comes back to Asheville this year, and the UTC people are raring to go already.........

Man it sucks we couldn't be a part of that........
UTC people maybe raring to go...but this Mocs team has been lacking. I don't think they have much of a chance. They still have Omar Wattad from Science Hill. Buc alumnus Chattanooga coach John Shulman kicked his other Science Hill player off the team. Josh Odem was averaging just a tad under 7 points a game with a FG percentage just under 40.
I don't want to see ETSU have have anything to do with this board, it would not be a partnership, they would try to takeover and censorship would be close behind. No thanks, we know they read it
for the most part they have certainly acted like they don't care. I haven't even seen Mike try to do
his usual spin doctoring in a long while. But I still see his name as browsing the board pretty often.
Agreed... ETSU has no business trying to control the board. That doesn't nullify it being a tool for the good of ETSU athletics. The school needs to be posting on it.

What is his name?
I do love this board but we need 5,000 fans at games and not 5,000 posts by about 50 fans.

Athletic Departments HATE (HATE, HATE, HATE) message boards!! They can't "control the message" and resent that "fans" think they know more than the so-called experts protected by the shield of the Ivory Towers.

I've seen other schools message board who have staff members that come on the board as themselves (UTC and APP both have that scenario) to answer specific questions or clarify a situation NOT to slam and degrade people who don't agree with the direction of the program.

People may discount the "power of the board" but I promise you, more people know about the inner workings and don't trust what's going on at ETSU because of what they've read on this (and the other) board. Alternative media is the ONLY answer to at least keeping the dissatisfaction of fans in the light.

Where in the world would you ever see "plants" for the Athletic Department come on in a cloak and discredit former staff members, misalign coalitions, and create BLACK LISTS!! It's the POWER OF THE BOARD... and don't ever forget it!
