Full Version: New Column: "The Squeaky Wheel Should Not Get The Oil"

Let's start with the obvious: Mick Cronin did not want to play the #4 team in the country on its home floor without his best interior player.

For Yancy Gates to be suspended for a violation of team rules, you can safely assume that the Bearcat junior gave his head coach little choice.

Here's the rest of my column:

Cashmere Wright isn't young, is he. 3rd year player.

Noticed that when I read too. I think he was referring to youngsters in general, saying that college kids make these type of decisions and its up to coaches to steer them in right direction. Unlike last couple years where he blamed "youth" he followed up the comment by saying that Cash has all talent in world but it was up to coaches to get him to fulfill it

He's only played in 57 games. More than half of his eligibility remaining. He's really improved from last year. Points up to 9.4 from 5.4, nearly double the assists, better A/T ratio, double the steals, 45% FG up from 36%, 74% FT up from 59%, and 41% 3FG up from 26% last year. When he plays well and doesn't turn the ball over the offense looks so much better.

Good for Mick to move on without Gates until he gets his act together. I like Yancy and hope he returns, but JJ and Biggie more than filled in tonight.
I'm sick of the criticism levvied on Wright. I think he's a good player. No, he is not the best PG in the Big East, but he has talent and he is our PG. Night and Day when he is in the game running the point vs. Dion, IMO.
When Mick is in his 10th season at UC and has failed to make the NCAA Tournament, I wonder if Dan will still be writing these columns defending Mick?
Chatter, you are an absolute ray of sunshine today.

And every day.

Btw, this is Cashmere's 2nd year, not his third.
I'm a big fan of Dan Hoard's. He should have gotten the Reds job over Keels. Now Keels isn't coming back for the Reds.

Hopefully Dan is next in line when they hire again down the road.

As for the Bearcats, I'm sorry for the negativity, but I just can't help but feel another February implosion coming on. And listening to the excuses is getting beyond old. And some of you, especially Jim, go way too far trying to be positive and full of excuses too. You may think I'm too negative, but I fiind several of you way too defensive of Mick. It's equally annoying. You just don't see it because you're on that side of the argument.
Mick said that "the second half was great for us". We lost by 12 points. It would have been a 20-22 loss except that Pitt missed about 8 of 12 free throws in the last 5 minutes of the game. So I just don't see that the 2nd half was "great for us", unless you like blowout losses where you are down 23 points in your own conference.

Listening to your crap is getting beyond old also. Please do us all a favor next time you're punching away on your keyboard and just hit the delete button. I mean that in the most sincere, nicest way possible.

well, votto, this year's bearcat team hasn't given us much to prevent the fear of a february implosion occurring again. Do we have a leader on the floor at this time? early in the year, when we weren't playing that many great teams, it looked like Bishop was doing that. Cash showed some early signs but so far, as the past few years have been going, it appears we are going to struggle again. Losing Gates certainly didnt help but I'm not sure he could overcome Thomas's deficiences to stopped it anyways.

Everybody's frustrated, just have different ways of dealing with it. UC going on a winning streak the next handful of games would be soothing.
no reason we can't win the next four games.....

then again we could lose all four too. I think the season will be make or break in the next four games either way
