I have been processing this hire since I first heard about it (Thursday night). I have decided that attacking the new coach is not going to accomplish anything for UAB. Bringing up questionable parts of the man's past may have been effective prior to the hire but now he is OUR coach. Like it or not, he is the UAB football coach. The way I see it, we have two options. One, boycott UAB football and stop giving. Second, continue to fight the BOT by all means possible but support UAB because it is OUR school.
From what I have been told, UAB administration had no choice in this matter. If that is the case, what good does it do for us to attack the administration? If we choose option one and boycott UAB football, we will kill it. There is no way that UAB football will survive if we do not support it. If we choose option 2, we still have football but we focus our displeasure where it should be focused. The corrupt, meddling, good ol' boy BOT. We have a chance to save UAB football with this option. If this hire turns out to be a poor hire, fine... we address this issue in three years. The focus for us right now is survival!
We have lost this battle. There is no other way to look at it. You play the cards you are dealt and we now have been dealt a new coach. We play with that coach... period. That doesn't mean that we just bend over backwards for the BOT. We should now be on an all out attack on the BOT. PBJ should be kicked off the trustees. The man is absolutely fair game. The entire BOT is fair game. If they do not come out and vocally support UAB, then we pull no punches. They should be equals on the BOT so if they don't want to be open to public ridicule, they need to speak.
I know that everyone is ticked off about the way this all went down but I ask that we end the coach attacks after midnight tonight. It is counter productive to our ultimate goals. If the man stinks as a coach and we lose? Open up the criticism but for now play the hand we have been dealt and live to fight the next battle in this war.

I couldn't agree more. Taking shots at a coach, now our coach, before he even steps on the practice field is unfair to the man. I think the BoT are despicable and it is my devout hope that they have stepped far enough out into the open that something will be done about it. I'm not holding my breath though.
I also think that Carol Garrison is playing her cards close to the vest. She can't be happy about how all this crap went down, starting with Pat Sullivan or even before, and I bet that she's quietly taking steps to strike back. I certainly hope so, the most troubling aspect of this whole fiasco is the lack of any vocal leadership from UAB.
If nothing else, Callaway can't possibly be worse than Watson Brown.

Now that I'm more calm and better collected than I was last night, I agree with you "BTR".
Currently, I am at peace, for the most part, with what has taken place the past couple of weeks.
The way I'm looking at it right now, we are better off because Watson Brown is employed by, and resides in, another state.
That was all I was really wanting to happen.
Coach Callaway has done nothing yet to cause us to show him scorn or regret.
If he does, we can show our displeasure at that time.
I don't believe that now is the time for undue ridicule.
Also, it would be a sweet and fitting irony if Coach Callaway were a successful coach at UAB.
The BoT and "Baby Bear" would be at a complete loss of ability to take action to remove him from his position.
They would have screwed themselves and that would be the best thing I can imagine right now.
So, Coach Callaway, go and make all UAB faithful proud AND victorious!

Well said, BTR and I respect your opinion, but I made a promise to myself years ago, before all this happened that I would not support cheaters. Hiring this man lowers the standards that Gene Bartow instilled.

No one can out-obnoxious Tom. And I thoroughly enjoyed sitting with Band Dad and his gang. You can't ask for better company during the game.
