Old one moving to San Diego State. Any ideas on what they will do? I believe training starts soon.
Steve Murray is leaving? The warm weather must look inviting.
BG lost their strength coach to Michigan, I think. Hope we get somebody good- outside of Kaverman our sprinters aren't living up to their potential IMO.
I heard it mentioned last week that the head trainer was leaving for a school in California. Friday they were conducting interviews.
So, who's leaving? Football Scoop says that San Diego State has an interest in Rick Court of Toledo. Is it Steve Murray or Rick Court?
The trainer I heard about was going to Stanford........not sure exactly who it was. Rick Court is the one going to San Diego State. That just happened a little bit ago, so no one has been interviewed for that job yet. Losing Court is a big blow to the conditioning of our football program. We need a really strong candidate to replace him.
I vote for Mike Barwis, from Michigan. A year with his program would be great ! Most likely he would move on with Rich Rod after a year. He would be fun while here.

A lot of good things said about Barwis in the Brock Mealer article.

Yea, but he was paid $190,000 at UM. Court was paid only $51,000
The Mealer family are very special people. Anyone who has watched the ESPN 360 understands. No Matter what they say about Rich Rod, he and his staff helped someone that was told they had less then 1% chance to walk again. Brock Mealer walked the wolverines across the field last opening day. Barwis was the major driving force behind making that happen. One of our kickers, Simpkins is close friends with Brock and his brother and spent a lot of time at Ann Arbor, Simpkins says Barwis pushes everyone to their limit. I know it is a longshot to get him to Toledo, but you never know until you ask!
Played golf with Rick Court last summer...fun guy
Is Brian Jones one of our trainers heading to Cali?
Brian Gallagher is the athletic trainer that went to Stanford. He replaced Corey Hojnicki the fall after Dave Huffstetler retired. Rick Court is going to San Diego State. No other news on any other coaches leaving but I have heard rumors Ward might be on his way out.
Personal trainers make $50,000-60,000. To pay a Division I Strength and Conditioning coach that kind of money is ridiculous.
I hate to see money be the center of it. With that said, I think to build the program we all want, Ut needs pay all of our coaches well. I don't want us to be a turnstyle for coaches. To build a consistant program with good recruiting year after year it will cost money. The way we get good players is with coaches selling a winning program with tradition, it is a coach /player relationship. When coaches leave, it opens the door for recruits to leave also. Pay people what they are worth, if we don't others will.

Where do we get the money? I'm sure we want to compensate our coaches but the dollars are not there.

A good S&C Coach is worth his weight in gold. They help each player reach their physical potential, keep them on the field by reducing injuries and aid in rehab while coming back. Upgraded training facilities are great but if you don't have the right person implementing the proper programs you minimize their effectiveness. "Mens sana in corpore sano".
It's not always about money. Court went to San Diego State. The cost of living out there is really the difference in pay he is getting. In this case, it's about moving up. The MWC is a step up and puts him in a position to jump to a BCS school next.
If we put together a strong winning program. The Glass Bowl will be full, parking a premium, concession sales go up. Would be a start to offset cost. Schools our size, like Boise have made it work, really tough to get tickets there, I hope we get to that point in near future.
Beckman and staff have done a nice job in 2 short years, all I am saying is we better figure it out, or I believe we will have some changes to deal with.
If we could keep Beckman here after next season, 10 win seasons would be the norm.
