I am appalled at the poor safety habits. No safety glasses, long sleeve shirt, no hearing protection.

I'm scared of band saws ever since I broke one while using it. I guess I put too much torque on it by accident, and it wasn't till a little bit after that I realized how badly that could have ended. I also had a piece of wood shot at myself (and hit my gut) by a table saw. Naturally, I'm not very good at wood working.

Just let the saw do the cutting. If you think you're using too much pressure/force, you are. No need to rush while using power tools.

You turned out better than the guy on the video we had to watch during shop class 20+ years ago.
Do they still have shop?

I'm 99.9% sure our school didn't offer it, but the closest thing was Technical theater where we learned about all the production aspects of putting on a show. So we built the sets and such, and had all the traditional tools (circular, table, band, drills, clamps, etc.). One of the better classes I took.
