Good Lord, nothing like lowering your standards!03-drunk
Too many teams, too many marginal teams, and too many ways in which the money will need to be divided. I will take this:

SBC EAST
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Middle Tennessee
South Alabama
Troy
Western Kentucky

SBC WEST
Arkansas State
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana-Monroe
North Texas
Texas San Antonio
New Mexico State/Texas State/La Tech

New Mexico State does not bring anything to the table. I think La Tech is the better choice. From previous post, I get the drift that La Tech would not be welcomed. KSU, GSU and UNCC will not be marginal programs in the near future. They are simply the next FAU, FIU and USA along with UTSA. These three schools are in the SBC present footprint and raise the conferences exposure in the Atlanta and Charlotte media markets.
How about this:

ASU
FAU
FIU
ULM
ULL
TROY
MTSU
NT
USA
WKU

Oh wait, that is what we have in the next two years! 03-banghead

Football season just ended. We can't be needing a fix that quick that we have to have a conversation about Kenesaw St and UNC Charlotte, do we?

Time waits for no one my friend. Your enemies or competitors are always planning, so should you. Start developing contacts now. You do not know the future. Look at the PAC 10 moves last year and how it was blocked by the SEC. Take note and be aware of what is outside your line of sight. Try to peak over the horizon. Changes are coming in 2014.

Adding 6 FCS/reclassifying teams (7 counting USA) will not strengthen the conference.

why 17 teams?

Well the assumption is that if La Tech is not invited then Lamar will be invited.

Responding to Skully: These are not small FCS schools. They are on the par with FAU and FIU which moved up from FCS just a few years ago. In fact, most are using the FAU/USF model.
Let's see:

Kennesaw State No Football
UNCC No Football
UTSA No Football
Lamar Just restarted Football this year
GA State Just started Football

And you want a conference that runs from San Antonio, TX to Charlotte, NC down to Miami, FL and has 17 teams? No thank you.

The truth of the matter is that ULL and ULM might not be able to keep pace with UTSA, Georgia State and North Carolina Charlotte within a few years. Especially when it comes to recruiting. I think you will be hitting the bottle hard then. 04-drinky cheers 04-cheers
Ok, InjunJohn and CajunT,

Let’s observe these facts with the presence that numbers draw attention and attention attracts money.

These are the enrollments for all of the schools I listed. Please notice the enrollment figures for ULM, ULL as well as La Tech.

Rank School Enrollment

1 Florida International 42,287
2 North Texas 36,206
3 Texas State 32,586
4 Georgia State 31,533
5 Texas San Antonio 30,395
6 Troy 29,689
7 Florida Atlantic 28,000
8 Middle Tennessee 25,188
9 North Carolina Charlotte 24,700
10 Kennesaw State 23,452
11 Western Kentucky 20,712
12 Arkansas State 17,795
13 Louisiana-Lafayette 16,361
14 South Alabama 15,007
15 Lamar 14,388
16 Louisiana Tech 11,804
17 Louisiana-Monroe 7,519

So I can say by these numbers that the majority of the schools have more students and alumni than ULM or ULL.

Therefore, they can attract more money from advertisers and sponsors on top of more alumni support. Which means facilities improvements which affects recruiting.

As far as the geography of the conference, have you notice the size of the future PAC 12, Big 10 and Big East.

Add South Alabama to your list of recent start ups. So what is the problem with your attitude? You will be left behind if you don't make moves to keep pace and get ahead.

So I caution you to expand your vision and plan to accommodate and take advantage of future opportunities.

Now please pass the bottle. My Jaguars finally have a football team and I am loving it. I luv the Sun Belt, God bless you all.
04-cheers

First, your post is full of speculation and you no what....UL is raising more money now that Coach Hudspeth has been hired, then ever before for RCAF. Two thousand more rooms will be available on campus once the new dorm construction has been completed in August of 2012. That will help increase UL's enrollment to 20,000 in three years. Also, the only student fees that have been passed have been for facility projects such as a new student union building, athletic facility improvements, etc. There is no student fee at this time that goes directly into the athletic fund. That will change next year now that tuition has been raised. Once that happens, UL will be like most other SBC member institutions in having a student fee that goes directly into the athletic fund. So UL will be even more competitive within three years.

As for GSU or UNC Charlotte, who cares? You don't think that their budgets will not be affected by a budget crisis at the state level? If you don't, then you haven't paid very close attention to the news. No one cares about GSU in Atlanta or the metro area. Georgia Tech is king period. UNC Charlotte isn't on the radar of college football. UL’s long term potential growth is no more in question then it is for either of those programs.

But here is a suggestion, why don't you create your new SBC league on your PS2 College Game Day and play out the season for us all. That way we can all know how your new conference configuration will work out.
