A few weeks ago I was out of town attending a funeral. While there I road around with my dad seeing how things have changed since he left as a child. He showed me an old house they lived in. He was very young when they moved out of it. The thing is, they just up and left and never sold it. My grandfather owned the house. My question is does the house belong to my father and his brothers and sisters? or is it a lost and found type of thing?
Have they paid the taxes on it in all those years? If not, its passed hands starting with the first one on the steps of the courthouse auction.

Nope, but the property looks as though no one has even lived there since. Over ran with weeds and whatnot.
In order to take it back I believe you would owe all the missed taxes on it.
Initially, go to the County website where the property is located and find the County Auditors section.
Find the search real estate records section. You will need to the address or possibly deed book -page parcel
number of the property (legal description). Do the search and it will tell you who the onwer is, Joe Smith,
or abc llc, or a city or county could own it etc. You can also have a lawyer or someone else do a title search
for you. Also before all of this you might want to ask your Dad if his family ever owned this real estate. Just
because they lived there doesn't equate to them owning it.
