and gets blown out to fall to 0-13. Boy, that NCAA bid sure was a program changer. I doubt one in a million U.S. citizens could correctly name the eight 15 and 16 seeds in last years NCAA tournament (without looking it up on the internet.
Told you so.
I don't think anyone in the right mind would think a NCAA bid for UAPB would propel them to the elite. Wasn't most of their players seniors last season? You can down them but that was a proud moment for UAPB players, students, fans, and alumni. I guess if UALR happens to win the tournament this season and be a 15 seed would you make fun of us too?
I was totally thrilled for them, having suffered as they did for so long. They had a break coming. I follow them closely every year (and not many sports fans in Arkansas can say that). I was just making the point that just getting to the NCAA tournament for one year doesn't do that much for a program. Nice reward, a moment in the sunshine, but not much more unless something else goes with it.
I was referring to mjs post. I know he gets amp about UAF and how they treat us, so it seems like there should be some unity for a school like UAPB. Any accomplishments they get is going to be by blood sweat and tears and should be praised. I have a soft spot for UAPB since that is my dad's alma mata.

They have a brutal job down there, since they have to finance the program by getting bashed in the non-con season. I had waited for years for what they did last season - get to the NCAA in a year that Fayetteville didn't. Naturally, the state media gave them far less play than they should have, but they did get some. They actually had a pretty fair team last year and got a couple of nice non-con wins, if I remember correctly.

I was not putting down UAPB at all. I have enjoyed going to their football games at War Memorial Stadium and pull for them in basketball. Like Pappy said, my point was more directed at folks who seem to believe that NCAA bid would be a "game changer" for the UALR program. Yes, it would be nice just like it was for UAPB. But life would go as usual in Arkansas the following season.
Ok

No, there won't be a couple of thousand new season tickets buyers lining up the next day, but it should bring in some new fans, and certainly will get the attention of the media and some of the basketball fans in the metro area. Especially if the pigs aren't in the tournament that particular year. It's a hell of a lot better than anything we've seen in twenty years or so. At least most people in the metro area will know we've got a frigging basketball team, and might even know the name of the Trojan coach.
Mike Newell?

If we go to the NCAA tournament, they'll know who he is, no matter what his name is.

In all honesty, I have no idea what the name of the UAPB coach is, and I consider myself a pretty good basketball fan.

And probably most other basketball fans don't either. But I'll bet the most basketball fans in this state knew who Newell was when he was at UALR. Hell, UAPB gets zilch publicity. When it comes to publicity, we look like the hogs compared to those guys.

Well I bet they get a game day article in the Pine Bluff commercial. I can find out for sure. The new secretary on the Forensic Unit moved here with her fiance because he got a job as a sports writer for the Commercial covering UAPB. Ironically, they are both WKU graduates who are looking forward to seeing the Toppers in Little Rock this year.

I am sure they are pretty happy if they get local publicity, and the Pine Bluff paper historically has done a pretty good job of covering them. Like us, I am sure they would be happy just to be thought of as Pine Bluff's team.
I'd rather be known as Little Rock's team. We're 60 miles from Pine Bluff.

At this point I would settle for University Avenue's team.
The Agape Church beat us to that moniker. And we really don't want to play them for that title, do we..?

Let's start with the Sunnyvale Nursing Home and work our way up. We might beat them.
