Full Version: The Thugs Of Mississippi State Are At It Again

Renardo Sidney and teammate Elgin Bailey got into a fight with each other in the stands before a game involving other teams at the Diamond Head Classic today. I would think this was hard to believe, except that it's Mississippi State. Last year the Richmond Spiders played and beat Mississippi State at the South Padre Island Invitational. The next night MSU beat Old Dominion in the conso game, and the Spiders locker room was right next to the Mississippi State locker room. As the Spiders are getting ready to leave the locker room to take the floor for the championship game against Mizzou, they hear a huge fight break out next door amoung the Bulldog players that the coaches had to break up. And that was after a win! Stansbury sure recruits some fine fellows down there!
It's amazing how smart those guys can be too. Graduate in 4 years.

Mississippi State ain't Harvard. I imagine they have a special graduation track for athletes down there that a sixth grader could probably pass. Keep 'em out of jail as best you can and throw in some tutors, and there you go!

Teenagers getting in fight- never heard of that happening before. I guess it looks bad on national TV, but its not like they killed anybody.

So you'd be just fine with these "teenagers" representing your alma mater? Your standards must be a lower than I figured. I would be totally embarrassed of the program I supported if anything like this happened. But maybe its just me.
This is State we're talking about. So, I take it they don't break out the fist-o-cuffs at Richmond..?

Trust me on this one. The calibur of individuals who are on the Richmond squad, and on Little Rock squad for that matter, is so far above what Stansbury recruits to Mississippi State it's not even worth discussing. Stansbury has no standards. It's only when one of his thugs does something that he can't deny that he acts like he does.
My point exactly.
I have to admit I have mixed thoughts about episodes such as this. I am glad we try to run a reasonably clean and law abiding program. But, sometimes it would be good to have a couple of thugs to get some rebounds for us.

Courtney is a really classy kid, and he's getting a lot of rebounds.04-cheers

I don't know if you literally have to be a "thug" to get rebounds, but it likely helps. There are many exceptions, I'm sure. JJ could get a few rebounds and I never heard anything negative about him. But he sure did look mean with his mouthpiece in.

I think you can be physically and mentally tough and not be a thug. And it helps if you're 6'10" or better and have those attributes.04-cheers

Wasn't it Miss State a few years ago where their star player passed 33 hours in summer school to remain eligible? He's probably a brain surgeon by now.04-cheers

And practicing in Starkville as the team doctor. Not to worry though, a brain surgeon wouldn't have much to work on down there.

On a somewhat related note, my med student son seems to have decided to apply for a residency in neurosurgery. He may still change his mind before he has to start applying this summer. May get a chance to meet a bunch of former Mississippi State players.

My wife's nephew is a prominent neurosurgeon in Denver. Joel might want to talk with him sometime. Visit with me next time you see me and I'll furnish you more information about him. He's an amazing young man.04-cheers
