If our defense continues to be strong, we should be able to take Lipscomb home & home.

I bet you we don't.
You may be right, but based on Lipscomb's lack of defense and defense being our strength, we should be able to pull that off. If the Bucs can find some consistency, they could win this league, but even if they do, it won't be rolling through the league undefeated. The league is simply too tough. That may include a loss to Lipscomb, but my money is on losses to Belmont & JU on the road.
.......and of course Stetson at home.......
....and Belmont at home.
.... and our 3rd NCAA tournament berth in a row.
And a 17th seed....

This is just histocally flawed. Every year we have a certain group of people on here declare that "this is the year of the A-sun!" And every year it's the same dismal league it always is. However, if you look at it, you find that this is not actually true. The strongest the A-sun has ever been was when we first joined it...

True Jacksonville was absolutely nothing that first year but what about everyone else?

DAVID lipscomb: who competes for the crown every season, has NEVER been as good as they ended up being that first year. They had big guards, could shoot the three, and played DAMN FINE DEFENSE! As opposed to now where they have a couple of players who are dangerous and, as bucfaithful keeps harping, have no defense at all.

Belmont: was at the height of their power between the second half of the first season and the end of the second. The third season was the year they gave Duke a scare but much like when ETSU beat Arizona....they were better the season before.

Gardner Webb: As a team they were at their best during our third season which was their final season. However the addition of Gardner Webb in any of those three seasons bumps the A-sun up over what it is now.

FAU: Had two quality players and a quality coach. The addition of D2 schools has never made up for losing FAU.

Stetson: The best team Waugh has put on the floor was during our inagural A-sun season. They were big and mean. Made it to the semi-finals in the tournament.

Campbell: Has improved as time has gone by....but they've never been a true contender.

Mercer: A team that has NEVER been in serious contention for the title. (not that they haven't had talent)

Kennesaw and UNF were on probation but Kennesaw's most dangerous team yet has been that first year. I don't care what anyone says Kennesaw is not the same without Wooten.

Today we are going on about how strong the A-sun is because of some outside conference wins. Fine. But much like this summer you are losing your head with how you want things to be rather than how they truly are.

Let's look at big out of conference wins in the past:

Mercer beat USC when USC was, I think, rated 6 in the nation. Mercer sucked in the A-sun.

Mercer beat Alabama. Mercer sucked in A-sun.

Mercer beat Georgia Tech. Mercer sucked in A-sun.

Gardner Webb beat Kentucky. Gardner Webb did not win the A-sun.

Belmont beat Cincinati. ETSU had the tools to beat Belmont each of those first three years in the A-sun and couldn't get it done because of COACHING.

I could go on and on but you get the idea. The A-sun is the A-sun. It's not getting stronger. Could be argued that it's slightly weaker. But it pretty much is what it always is.

And we may find a way to win the tournament. No greater proof of how weak this conference is than that.
Classic Goldfinger. There is no way to PROVE that any of those teams is better than this years. This is the kind of silly bar room argument that you can dance around endlessly, picking and choosing the facts to suit your position of the moment.

I wasn't on the board at the time, but I'll wager that most of Goldfinger's posts back then were moaning that ETSU was stuck in the weak sister "A-Suck" instead of the mighty SoCon. But now, in Goldfinger's telling, those same weak sister teams have morphed into giants compared to the pitiful A-Sun of today.

Not to worry though. The A-Sun teams of 2010 will finally get some credit in a couple of years, when Goldfinger will be telling his readers how much worse the A-Sun has gotten since 2010, the year when they were regularly beating teams like Florida, Georgia Tech and Auburn.

I haven't done too well predicting ETSU so far this year. But a Goldfinger post, that is something that any of us can predict.
