Don't see it happening...ASU has many troubles not known to those outside of the state of Alabama.

They sure a coming out of the woodwork. Can't see it happening either, just thought I'd share. This school belongs to the SWAC and has about 5,500 students. Currently they're playing in the Cramton Bowl where the now defunct Blue-Gray Game was played.

Have you seen their campus? The school uses a run down hotel in downtown Montgomery as an overflow for the lack of dorms. Ask the folks over in Lafayette a/b that...they experienced it first hand the week they played Troy.

Oh, please. These folks can not be serious. It would be years and years and lots and lots of money which they can not possibly come up with to move to Division I-A (FBS).
They've got to be kidding. I've seen the financial spreadsheet on FAU's debt service for their new stadium, and I can't see how a poor HBCU like Alabama State could afford it given their current athletic budget. Obviously they've had to work it out to get the bonds issued or to actually borrow the money, but I'm really skeptical. This sounds like FAMU's plan to move up to the SBC back in 03 or 04. They had no clue what it meant to actually have an FBS team.
Really makes no sense. Alabama State would only fit in the SBC should they move up, but they bring less to the league then New Mexico State does, and thats hard to do considering NMSU is a gazillion miles out of our footbprint
Alabama State moving up?? what a joke. they have the worst academics in the state. you can get in with a 15 ACT score.
It won't happen.
Alabama State talked about moving up in the late 1980s/early 1990s, but ruled it out due to a lack of money; I'm not sure how much of that discussion was public, but I heard about it through a family member who was an administrator at another school in Alabama. I'd expect this not to go much farther.

Alabama State would lose the Turkey Day Classic against Tuskegee (Division II), unless if Tuskegee replaces Alabama State in FCS.

Someone tell them to contact the WAC or MAC they're actively looking for FCS teams to add. There's no openings in the Sun Belt.
You will probably see the best of the SWAC and MEAC align and try to move up together, and the left overs merging together to stay at FCS. I see FAMU, Southern, Jackson St, Grambling, Bama St, TnSu, South Carolina St, Nort Carolina A&T, Tx Southern all trying to move up at some point. I could be wrong

there's the southern alabama division and then there's the everyone else division

When you say "TnSU" are you referring to Tennessee State University in Nashville? I had heard the the SWAC offered them a place in their conference though they haven't made a decision on that.

I very much doubt any of those schools can afford to move up to FBS.

FAMU was much better suited for a move-up and look what happened there.

Maybe the troy fans can answer this due to their proximity, but didn't Alabama State have some pretty severe ncaa infractions to overcome just a few years back? I remember they had the cheating Cole brothers (I think they're coaching at TX Southern now) who went there after getting tn state in nashville in trouble with the ncaa.
