Full Version: Anyone listen to Irvine?

He said that he is pretty confident that Watson will not be here next year. There will a mutual agreement of him stepping down. The possibility is there for him to be AD but he's almost sure Watson will not be the coach.

**Plus he is looking at Tenn. Tech...Which is saying he would rather be there than here... "what the garbage"!**

I'm hoping that all the talk and speculation about Watson staying was just Watson running his mouth and has no basis. Hopefully that is the case. I'd just like to know that with certainty... and some time soon.

We do not want him as AD either anymore. The PS deal makes that impossible now.

He has blown it.
It means that he wants to be a coach and not an administrator. I can completely understand that.

I think Watson might have been doing it to shut people up for once. Irvine believes that Watson is just going to step down on his own so I guess we will see.
[Looking ... looking ... looking... ] Where's a "" emoticon when you really need one????? 03-confused
I heard from a football player that he had a choice with whether he wanted the HC or AD job...He acted like he had complete control of the situation. There is nothing else that can be done other than
the article in the bham news said that wb has spoken with the TT AD about the job.
You have to understand, Watson probably feels pretty betrayed by all of this, or at least felt like he isn't being given a fair shake. He has a vision of having all facilities complete within 5 Years and starting construction of an on campus stadium, and feels like he isn't being given a chance to fulfill that vision. In his mind UAB was in almost all the games it lost this year, and with a couple of lucky breaks, we would not be having this discussion. He has given 12+ years of his life to UAB, and probably feels he deserves better.

So what do you do if your Watson? You probably know that its best if you leave, but to do what? Go where? So you do what coaches do this time of year, you get the off-season organized, and you recruit. Watson and his assistants are still out there working for UAB, and will be until a decision is reached.
There is a lot that is yet to be decided. Even if Watson stays as head coach, do we lose any players or assistants to Samford? Even though the pay would be less, most of our assistants have families, some have young kids; the thought of going to what has to seem like a more stable situation here in town has to be an appealing thought to some, if Pat will have them.

My gut tells me Watson will not be the UAB head coach next year.

I like what your gut is telling you. Before this PS crap I was fine with him being AD. Now I would just as soon see him erased from the annals of UAB.
If he wanted to see if vision come to fruition that badly, he should've just taken the AD job and we wouldn't be in this mess right now.

Amen!

He told his assistants a couple of days before the Central Florida game that Dr.G had given him the choice between the AD job and the head coaching job. That was what prompted the NOOOOOOO thread in the Mod forum. Not that he might be head coach, but that there was a choice either way. From the moment we learned that, we pretty much knew that the tracks were messed up, the train was on the way, and that we were about to have a train wreck on our hands. Now, the assistants were given the strong impression that many of them would be out of a job even if Watson stayed as HC. Watson also told them that he had to have his decision by Monday (November 27th.) Monday we got word that there was a lot of back and forth going on, and that no decision had been made yet. By Wednesday evening, we had started the Sullivan Saga. Friday was the day of media reckoning for that mess.
All very good and important points, 'BlazerMatt', and points that must be considered, but how long must we wait? [Yes. I know that I'm being selfish with my sentiments, but that is how I feel at the present time.]

And I want to be a professional baseball player, but no one is offering me a contract!

Seriously...We are sitting back and just letting next year go down the drain. I'm tired of having to wait around while all the other school are out getting jobs. Someone who has the power, or groups (students) need to protest. The situation is getting out of hand no matter the outcome. I am just wanting a decision. I would love to hear one way or the other. Cause if Watson isnt coach then we can get a new one and have a great year, but if he is coach then I at least know what I can yell about. Right now I just get mad and frustrated, then excited, then frustrated all over something we should have known the answer to a long time ago. So if nothing happens soon then I will begin protesting and holding up signs at basketball games. Something needs to be done one way or the other...
