AS many of you know, I've been very middle of the road about everything that has transpired over the last who-knows-how-long for reasons I wish not to bring up on the board.

That being said, for the first time ever, I feel like I'm walking amoungst BamarNation. Ya'll (even YOU) are acting like a bunch of Mal Moores who are pulling on the trigger for Mike Price.

How many times in the past 2 weeks has the local media been WRONG? And how many times have ya'll (myself included) jumped on incorrect faster than Brittle Brodie was hitting the ground in Not-so-Iron Bowl '05.

During class I got a call from a good friend of mine who gave me some great perspective. Let's assume for a second that CWB IS actually a person and SOMEWHAT cares about UAB. What do you people expect CWB to say to his players right now?

CWB Wrote:I'm headed to Tenn. Tech and I just wanted to tell ya'll c-ya, wouldn't want to be-ya!

No. I don't think so. CWB wouldn't do that. But I'm betting he's waiting just as anxiously to find out his fate as we are. It's well documented that Dr. G has been out of the office this weekend. Do you really think she would try to make this kind of decision while not in Birmingham? I doubt it.

I'm young enough not to know a lot about the history of UAB. Most of what I know was dug up while I was an Orientation Leader (Summer/Winter '03). But I do know the history surrounding the "Conspiracy Theory". I understand that many people here think that this is all of that mess coming to a head. I'm just saying,

"Think before you RE-ACT".

If ya'll want to protest, there's nothing I can do to stop you. Though, I think all this "Fire Watson Brown" chant crap makes everyone who does it at the basketball game look like BamarU fans. Now IS NOT the time to berate a man whose hands are tied and take away from a great basketball experience.

NOW is the time to praise the woman (A UAB Alumni, no less!) who is putting her professional career on the line to do what is right.
Well said.
Everyone read that over and over and over again. Very well said...
You misspelled theory.
and conspiracy.
Please don't patronize us as though we are children going against your wishes. If Watson Brown truly cared about UAB he would have resigned immediately after the season because he would have been honest with his evaluation of the program and saw that he was the main problem.

I have been a UAB fan all my life, graduated in 1996, and have been a contributer ever since even when I didn't have much to contribute. Not because I enjoy throwing my time and money away but because I love UAB. Most of the history you read about, I lived, and I feel as though those of us who spend our money on UAB have a right to b!tch and complain about how our money is being misused. You can call it bama like or whatever you like but I call it consumers rights because I am a shareholder in UAB athletics and right now the company isn't performing but the CEO refuses to step down so now we must force him out.

We don't have a choice but to react to what is reported/rumored in the media because our administration hasn't done a good job of informing us as to what is going on. At least UAT made a decision, announced it, and informed their fans/supporters of their intentions that's more than I can say about UAB's administration.

I refuse to praise anyone who hasn't done anything worth praising, if she completes the task then I will acknowledge her accomplishment. But until then she is just attempting to do her job, something she should have done last year.

So before you begin your campaign to rid the world of message board overreaction, start with your own overreaction to a message board.

Take a nap!

That's a big +1 on that for me.

1) I'm not patronizing you.

2) I believe that CWB (in HIS mind) cares for UAB and believes he is doing the right thing (in HIS eyes)

3) I agree, you have every right to complain...I just don't see why someone who cares so much for UAB Athletics would think it's right to do it at someone else's (the Basketball Team's) expense...

4) You DO have a choice. Over-reation here is one thing. Planning a full-scale protest here takes over-reation OVEr the limits of sanity.

5) SHE'S A UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT! SHE'S NOT AN AD! How to you think BamarU would fair with Mal Moore as it's president for more than a week. Not well at all in my book. However, Dr. G has got someone (IADRM) who knows SOMETHING about athletics helping her out. She's doing her best to make the best decision possible...let her get back in town for a day to do that job...you'd be surprised at the results (points to her track-record with the hospital and research @ UAB).

6) I'm not going to say that I'm not trying to sway any of you. All I'm asking is that everyone take a step back and take a deep breath and think individually what you would do in this situation...that's all.

Yep. And you can trust B4L...he knows more than 99% of us about what's going on...
How is stabbing you assistant coach PS three times in the back after promising to let him take over the HC job what is best for UAB?

There are actions and behaviors that are just simply wrong. And just because thinks he's doing the right thing, doesn't make it right. How a person treats his employees tells you a great deal about the character of that person. We've seen how WB treats his employees. Anyone care to take a guess as to what that says about his character?

WB has become truely blinded to any semblence of reality when it comes to UAB football and his job as HC. I'm not going to trust that he has UABs best interests at heart.
Quote:And just because thinks he's doing the right thing, doesn't make it right

That goes for the fans as well. Protesting a football coach at the basketball coachs 2nd home game isn't right as well.
I'd agree with that. Support the BBall team after their fantastic win at Cinci. Leave Brown where it belongs...in the toilet.

Bartow arena stands for all that is right about UAB. It is the home of excellence. Lets honor Bartow arena with our excellence as well.
So those of you who oppose any type of protest at the basketball game. WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION? COME ON, WE ARE ALL EARS.

Let's see. So far I have heard you say. Don't do a billboard, that isn't classy. Don't use brown bags at the football games. Don't call out Watson at the basketball game, don't, don't, don't.

What is your solution? I guess that would be to sit around and gripe amongst ourselves? I guess you probably think that the USGA resolution wasn't a good idea. All I hear some of you doing is lecturing others on what is classy and what is not. I have yet to hear you offer a solution that actually allows the fans to express what they really are feeling.

Don't come back with call talk shows. We tried that last week. the_blazerman was instrumental in organizing an effort and providing us with email addresses and phone numbers. I heard a bunch of bamah's on the radio and I wonder just how many of you actually wrote any emails.

I am not for violent take overs of UAB, rioting, burning cars, nor people reacting to the extremes but I do not see anything wrong with fans voicing their disapproval loudly at any venue they see fit. I find it interesting that several of the BASKETBALL PLAYERS have joined the facebook against Watson. Now, I think that wasn't very wise on their part but they did it.
wHY DON'T YOU ASK MIKE DAVIS IS HE WANTS PEOPLE PROTESTING WATSON AT THE BASKETBALL GAME?

If he is OK with it, then by all means go ahead. If you really think a protest is going to solve the problem, you are delusional. It will only make a bigger circus out of what is already going on.

Another reason a protest shouldn't be done outside the arena: Do you have a permit from the city to do so. If not, you can bet that any disruption in front of Bartow could result in UAB calling out Birmingham's finest.

BTR, I'm not trying to offer solutions. I'm just trying to point out potential problems for those on the board who have lost all sense of perspective.
B4L, the thing that bothers me most about your original e-mail, as a college professor, is that you took a phone call during class. Had you been in my class, you would now need a new cell phone. ;-)

However, I think you are right. We can't possibly believe anything at all being reported right now. It's all rumor and innuendo. However, reacting to that is part of the fun of being on a fan message board, right? But, we shouldn't let what we hear bend us out of shape, until it comes from Carol Garrison's lips, and we see those lips moving while the words are being uttered.

And BTR, I agree with you that those who are condemning those for taking certain actions should offer some solutions they consider classy. I, for one, am sick of the inaction. If the students showed up tonight, stormed the court and halftime, and burned Watson Brown in effigy, I for one would not be happier.

Hey, why haven't we thought of that. We need to have a big Mini-Park protest where we contact all the local media and burn Watson in effigy. Have a former football player strike the match. That'll be even better.
We wanted to protest during the football season but were told to wait until after the season. Well guess what? It's after the football season and it's time to let our voices be heard. Now for everyone who wanted to wait until after football you knew that basketball season would be underway so you had to know that this would spill over from the field and on to the court. If you didn't think it would come to this then the next time you try to delay the inevitable think about what will happen.

The fact is that there is never a good time to call for someone to be fired and most of us have more important things to do than to yell about WB but sometimes a man's got to stand up and do what he has got to do. As long as we worry more about style than substance then UAB will stuck with the likes of WB.

The basketball game is fair game because as AD Watson will be over the basketball program. If WB can run off Sully then don't think for a moment that he won't run off Mike Davis if he wants to.

PAT GREEN is a part of Birmingham's finest. Remember him? He played for a coach that actually cared about the program & not just himself.
Memphis Blazer Wrote:BTR, I'm not trying to offer solutions. I'm just trying to point out potential problems for those on the board who have lost all sense of perspective.

Obviously not but you are quite good at pointing out why nobody else's ideas will work. I don't think that I have heard anyone say anything about protesting outside of the arena. If they did, I may have missed that one. As far as a chant at a basketball game halftime, I can't imagine that the basketball coach would publically agree with anything like that since he is probably scared to death that Watson will be his new boss.

I guess we should just sit around and not try to do anything. Those silly students and their USGA resolution. Just being part of the circus I guess.
You say I'm not coming up with ideas. I was one of the first (I think 58-56 was the originator of the idea) to say we should show Dr. Garrison our support during the basketball game. Be positive rather than negative. I also posted some ground rules that should be followed.

1. Not while the basketball team is on the court.
2. Don't be rowdy with your anti Watson chants, yet sit on your hands during the baskeball game
3. Keep it clean

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with a basketball game protest if Mike Davis had been around for awhile. But the man has just come here from Indiana where he apparently dealt with a lot of classless fans, according to the article that was in the Birmingham Weekly. So bad that it affected his son, who never wants to play basketball. I would like for him to get to know UAB fans a little better before he sees this side of us.
