At the start of their 7-game road trip, LA Laker (and UALR legend) Derek Fisher drove in for a layup at :00.1 to beat the LA Clippers, 87-86. Despite scoring 6 points on the night, Derek Fisher has proved to be one of the all-time best point guards in the last 20 years.04-cheers04-cheers

You know he just could become a Hall of Famer. Wouldn't that be something!04-cheers
On a down note, his heroics were needed to beat the (gulp) clippers. :/

For the life of me, I can't undersand how that team(Clippers)can stay in business. And according to the box scores, they sell out all their games. I guess the fans go to watch other NBA teams and players. They are usually worse than the Chicago Cubs.

Speaking as someone who has lived in LA for just under a decade. The Clippers have a small, but solid fanbase AND many people go to their games because they are priced out of the Lakers games.

Then their tickets are cheaper than the Laker tickets? Kind of like being a Trojan fan, our tickets are cheaper, we get very little publicity, and we have a small fan base. The only difference their fan base is evidently big enough to sell out their games. Ours hasn't filled our 5,600 seats even one time. I've always wondered how many season tickets we sell. They never release this information. I suspect that it would be embarrassing to know the number.
Yeah, they're cheaper. I mean they're still kind of expensive I guess...it's not like they're giving'em away or anything. But they do alright. The demand isn't as high with them sharing the building with the Lakers, but they have decent fans. I work with a woman who is actually a pretty big Clips fan.

It's just easier to get seats for a Clippers game. Even when the Lakers were mediocre a few years back, and the Clippers made the playoffs, the Purple and Gold were a bigger deal.
Nothing against Fish, but that guy didn't exactly do a sterling job of guarding him. Typical NBA.

I think he was surprised that Derek was going to take the last shot. Another player came over to help and just missed blocking the shot by a whisker. I don't think it was that bad defense. Kobe sort of drew folks away and gave Fish that half step he needed to get to the basket.04-cheers
At this point NBA regular season games are kinda like baseball games, I think. It really doesn't matter who you see or who wins or loses, because the game itself is a bad product. It's more about the total experience. For instance I can't stand baseball (almost completely unwatchable) but I enjoy going to games with friends, having a few beers, and enjoying the atmosphere.

That might explain why the Clippers have a big following. Kinda like the Travelers. Minor league games are completely irrelevant excersizes, but they're still big fun.

I bet a lot of people say that about going to the Jack for UALR games.

Very true. I love to go to minor league games, and except when the Travs were a Cards farm team, I never have had any connection with the teams.
You can't beat a night out at the ole ballpark, especially when it's about 72 degrees, the beer is cold, and the breeze is blowing in off the river. And if the Angels ever put a decent product on the field here, it will be even better. I did like it better when we were a Cardinal farm club.

My uncle would take my cousins and I to games when the Clippers played in old LA Memorial Arena back in the late 80s. He was a big Lakers fan but like you said you could get good seats to watch the Clippers play other teams. But there are some loyal Clippers fans in the LA area.

Most folks don't really follow the NBA until after All-Star because that is after the NFL seasons end and when the contenders step it up a notch. I love going to NBA games because believe it or not...the real good teams with the good coaches play good fundamental ball. It was the owners and the commish that wanted to emphasize superstars, that is why they implemented several rules to ensure that the stars are set up for isolation. They gotta make sure those jerseys sell.

I tend to think good offense will always outshine good defense. What can you do when Kobe, Wade, etc. are hitting shots with hands in their face. That's why they get paid the big bucks. Watching a NBA game live is alot better than TV. TV can not show you how fast and strong these guys have become. I knew Wade was fast by watching on TV but in person he has one of the fastest first steps that I have seen in my life.
