Winner to the College Cup.

Cal scored with around a minute left, as Akron played uberconservative in the last five minutes, allowing Cal to kick it time and again high into the air toward the Zips net. It finally found it...
Zips had several balls JUST miss the net during the 2nd ot.

Anything can happen in a shootout.
what happened?
Akron wins shoot-out 3-2 on the last kick of the game!!!
good news, thanks
Congrats Zips!!!
I hate PKs.
Like deciding a basketball game with a free throw contest...
Nothing creates as much tension in all of sports. The pressure put on the kickers and the keepers is immense.
And the free throw shooters. Can you imagine Shaq decided the NBA championship with a free throw?

Oh, that's right, basketball mostly decides it on the floor.
Seems like a good time to have that debate.
Maybe instead of having overtime, football can kick extra points until someone wins. That'd be fun. And pressure packed.
Go Zips, go earn a star for your jerseys.

They do that in college, right?

Yea maybe the Stanley Cup playoffs should go to a shootout rather than sudden death overtime. Wait that would be super duper lame and a half.

Actually the one sport that might be better in this format is doing a home run derby for baseball instead of extra innings. Baseball could use a way of boosting the excitement.
Wow; a MAC team makes it to the "Final Four" and most of the posters are commenting on the way Soccer breaks ties (following a pair of OTs). We should be rejoicing!
Oh, I am totally psyched. Don't get me wrong; I watch half of the Akron-Indiana game.

That said, it would be like golf playoffs being decided by 3 foot putts.
For the record, Akron did go to a sudden death overtime. Two of them, in fact. After that, the game goes to a PK shootout. It's not like you go to a shootout as soon as the game ends in regulation. There's plenty of chances to end it on the field. Both teams had some great looks but thanks to incredible goalkeeping by both teams, they managed to stay alive through both OT rounds.
PKs is still a crummy way to decide such an important game. I'd be for having a variation of hockey's power play for 10 minutes of each side (say, 11 on 7) if the first or second OT has been exhausted.
Congrat's Zips.
Play until you win. PKS are a gimmicky way to end a game. Sounds like to old MISL.
