Can anyone out there refresh my increasingly feeble memory as to what year it was that Miami went 10-1 and was left sitting at home and what their ranking was at the time?

I hate getting old.
1998. Not ranked, but in that proverbial spot of #26 or 27
Thanks!
Before we moved to Oklahoma my wife threw out all of my old MAC media guides. Wonder if she was making a statement?
For what it's worth, Toledo was 10-1 and ranked 25th in the country in 2000 and did not get a bowl bid. This was the year we beat Penn State 24-6 and eventual MAC Champion Marshall 42-0. After the bowl games we fell out of the Top 25. I guess not playing was enough to push us out.
..and in 1995 Miami went 8-2-1 and beat the B10 champ (NW) during the regular season, but alas, no bowl.
Piggy-backing into the topic... WMU sat home with a 9-2 record in 2000, after beating Iowa and breaking Marshall's long home winning streak during the regular season.
Northern Illinois also went 10-2 in 2003 with wins over Maryland, Alabama, and Iowa State.....but did not get a bowl invite.

Besides she would probably thrash me within inches of my life!
Back in '79 CMU won the MAC, going 10-0-1 and DID NOT get a bowl berth. Just a few years prior, Miami Univ won three straight Tangerine Bowls (defeating Florida, Georgia & South Carolina) and finished in the Top 20 each of those years. The "reward" for the MAC? The Tangerine Bowl dropped the conference and it was left without bowl representation for several years.

Now many of you will know why many "old-timer" fans of MAC believe their can't be too many bowls. Because once upon a time the MAC received either one or none and, except for auto bids, is almost always the "last picked".

I think I remember that tie for 1979. CMU played at Toledo, they played to a 7-7 tie. I was 6 years old, sitting in the grassed in corner of the Glass Bowl. Place was packed, remembered holding on to my Dad's and uncle's legs just to get through the crowd to get to the restroom. Pretty scary, but also very exciting time. I remember the CMU band marching in, chanting Fire Up Chips.

And Toledo won three straight Tangerine bowls right before Miami, from 1969-1971. Between UT and Miami, the MAC won the Tangerine bowl in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, and 1975.
Why do you insist on tormenting me about 1972? Why!!?! 03-weeping

I need to lighten up from saying, "What?" I didn't get it. I still don't.
