I agree with Mike Huguenin. The bowl system is bloated and most of the bloating is done by terrible games that few are interested in. How is a playoff not better than this? If they do keep the bowl system, they at least should get rid of most of the automatic tie-ins. It just forces crappy matchups.

How excitng would it be to see NIU get a shot against a good team(s) and have a waaaaaaaaaay outside chance at a National Championship? It'd be pretty amazing, I think.
That would be absolutely incredible.

While riding the train home yesterday from the Bears game with a few buddies, I mentioned how pumped I was that NIU was ranked in the Top 25. A friend, who is a huge sports fan, said to me "That's cool, but doesn't it suck being a diehard fan of a team that has ZERO chance at EVER winning a National Championship as long as the BCS is in place?"

I thought for a second...and said...yes, it really does.

I'm not gonna be the guy that says NIU is a top 5 or 10 team in the country. But what about on the off chance that they ARE? We'd never be able to know.

A playoff isn't about giving NIU a chance at a National Championship...its more about giving fans the satisfaction of knowing that they at least have a shot. Could you even imagine how stoked we would be right now if the MACC could potentially help our seeding in a 16 team tournament? I can't even fathom how cool that would be.
I agree with most of the article, get rid of the majority of the tie-ins and cut 5 or 6 bowls.

Obviously a play-off would be best, but I don't see it happening soon.
