JU 60 @ Samford 49

JU shoots a miserable 38% from field and even worse 54% from the line.

Samford shoots 28% from field.

Hardy and Russell Powell play well, not so much rest of team. Even Hardy was 0-4 FT's at one point.

On to Aubrin
Sounds like sophomores guard Russell Powell and forward Glenn Powell have fought off the challenge from all the new recruits to establish themselves as starters. Shamille Jeffers, to my surprise, has outpaced Delwan Graham and Keion Palmer to become a major part of the rotation in the frontcourt. What does he look like to you?

It sounds like Graham is in some games and out in others, and that he doesn't give you much offense. What's your take on his play so far?

Looks like Keion Palmer probably redshirts, is that right?

Looks like big freshman guard McDougald has moved right into the lineup, giving you numbers very similar to Terry Galvin.

All in all - you're a little smaller than I thought that you would be with Graham and Palmer; but not a bad start. You guys, along with Belmont, Lipscomb (uneven) Stetson (uneven) and Kennesaw (VERY uneven) have all showed better early performance, at least at times, than the sputtering Bucs. But it's early, and I think we'll get it together yet.

Thanks as always for the info.
Jeffers given his limited bb background (St Kitts) has surprisingly good court sense particularly his timing on rebounds and put backs. I had mentioned in an earlier thread that he is thicker than I thought he would be. He is strong and athletic, not flashy, a blue collar type. The kind of player that you don't think has done much until you look at the box score and he has 6 pts and 7 rbs. Jeffers has been a big surprise to me. I ranked him last in Cliff's 7 man recruiting class. Go figure.

Graham has been hampered by a sore ankle and missed two games. He has 10 pts in 26 mins., and is only 4 of 10 from the line. Too early to tell.

Palmer is in the doghouse. Do not know why. I understand that when he gets out (hopefully soon) he will be a big asset.

McDougald has gotten a lot of minutes because Cohn has been bothered by turf toe. He is another blue collar guy, not particularly athletic, but high bb IQ. Like most FR, his shooting has not come around yet.

Murray will get the Bucs going. Belmont is looking very impressive.

On another note Sparks and Alston transferred to Div II Valdosta State and are doing quite well, averaging 11 ppg/4rpg and 6 ppg/6rpg respectively. Edwards transferred to Armstrong Atlantic and is averaging 14 ppg
