This is great news if you're a Choo fan.

Quote:Shin-Soo Choo will likely be exempt from military service since he helped South Korea beat Taiwan for gold at the Asian games yesterday, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian (on Twitter).

Back in July, I was arguing for trading for this guy. I think he's the perfect leadoff hitter for this club. Check his stats. Good OBP. He can steal bases, and he hits for power, along with having good defensive stats since he played RF for the Indians. Put him in LF and this team takes off. Seriously.

Now that the military obligation is a moot point, go get him Walt. I think it would be the key off season move that puts this team over the top.

Choo would be great but it's a little more complicated than "go get him Walt". Kind of like an Indians fan telling their GM to go get Votto and Chapman from the Reds. The rumor that he wanted to be traded has been denied as a translation issue - instead he says he wants to stay with one club for a long time and Cleveland would be his first choice. He's eligible for arbitration so the Indians are looking to lock him up long-term:

Quote:Choo will not demand a trade and the Indians are not going to trade him. He's going to be playing right field for manager Manny Acta on opening day in 2011. What's more he could be doing it with a new multiyear deal.

Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes last month

Now that the military issue has been cleared up, I think that makes the above even more likely. The only fly in the ointment could be that Boras is his agent - but that would be a big annoying fly for the Reds as well...
Walt can't just go get him? Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up. LOL.

It was stated as more of a wish than as a "piece of cake to trade for him" comment.

KC has Greinke on the block. Arizona has made Justin Upton and others available. Cleveland isn't ready to compete anytime soon. One good player that could bring 2 to 4 good players in return is a valuable commodity for a team in complete rebuilding mode like Cleveland. The Reds are in position to trade prospects who have nothing left to prove in triple A, but have no room on the major league roster for. Plus, the Reds have a surplus of major league starting pitching, something that is rare.

The right offer will free up Choo to be traded. Not saying the Reds do it. But never say never.
