In an effort to bolster his teams’ overall depth and provide more competition, especially on defense, UC coach Butch Jones said today that he will look in the junior colleges in an attempt to find the right fit. But he cautioned that this does not mean he is abandoning his philosophy of building the program with high school recruits.

“We’ll look to supplement our roster with junior college players but we’re not making an all-out philosophical change in terms of how many junior college players we bring in,” Jones said. “It’ll be very minimal.

”We’re going to bring in the right players that fit our system and fit our ideals that maybe we have a little bit of past history with, that we followed them in high school and now we know where they’re at.”
His statement at the end is obviously to avoid the Krags compares.
I don't mind adding a couple to improve depth, as long as he stays true to his statement that we won't try to build our program with a ton of JUCO players. I think there are plenty of examples to show that is a bad way to build a team and program.
Hopefully he brings in JUCO guys that actually qualify.
We already knew this. This is just the official white flag going up on getting defensive help in his first full class.
Yeah it definitely seems like Butch is making it known that he's not too high on our current defensive talent. JC players can definitely be brought in to fill a gap here and there and even make an impact (Pierre-Paul, Mt. Cody, etc.) but I agree that you can't build a roster around JC players.
Yea I think K-State has a philosophy of loading up on JUCO talent. I don't like the idea at UC but these are dire circumstances when the best talent you can put on the field are mostly sophomores. I think the 2 DB transfers will help though.
KState used to have tha policy which is a major reason Ron Prince is no longer the head coach there.

Exactly. JUCOs help for short term depth but aren't the type of players a program should be built on. I think Aaron Harris at RB would be a nice pick-up to compliment Peade in short-yardage situations and I'd like to get Highsmith (at LB? Can't remember). Other than that, I'm not sure who else I'd want UC to go after.

I'd love to see Tank sign, I just think he's a long shot at this point because of all of the big boys moving in on him now.

Offers from Alabama, Florida St, Ohio State...yep...I'd say the big boys are moving in now.

Bill Snyder invented the idea of using JUCO's to construct a program, not Ron Prince, because Kansas doesn't produce a lot of players at the High School level but has one of the best JUCO leagues in the country in their state. It made a lot of sense for them to go that route.
Butch Jones on your sh list...? how about Kelly for not recruiting any trench players or lb's or db's....Jones got dealt a bad hand and the injuries just componded it...
Aw heck. I feel bad for a few around here. Perpetually pissed Mick. Now Butch. Mix in Marvin for those that have yet to see the light and I hope dear old pet Rover hides under the coffee table when master is in one of his dark places.
