it scares me to keep seeing images of Michael Horton in it. Amazing how his stats in high school do not even come close to showing what he is now. He had ot have made layups and hit free throws to scored over 30 a game but he was 1-6 last night. That is unacceptable for a point guard. Its not good if he was a 7'6 center. His turnovers are so unforced. I was excited to see Cash come to UC but right now, it's outright embarrassing to watch him play. Another example of a player that seems to go backwards under Mick. Something is going to have to happen to Cash. Either a light switch go off in his head and he suddenly plays like he should or it turns this season into a disaster. Mick still doesn't have good coaches under him that make players better either. Just a bad combination all over. I don't see this team even doing as well as last years' and that sure wasn't something to write home about, was it?
54. You are on a roll. Take a deep breath.
Well, I saw little improvement out of Cashmere last year, and I saw none out of him last night.

Take care of the damn ball. That's all we ask.

Turn 100 mph into 70 mph and maybe you got something. Play under control.

I hope it WAS first game jitters.
he threw 1 pass that hit the backboard
I think Cash played under control early and did not force the issue and then in the 2nd half he was back to 100 mph Cash. I think he will be fine if he slows it down and keeps it under control. He is still only a sophomore, so hopefully we see more of the under control Cash.
Cash is a great talent and I think will really help the 'Cats. Like most people said, he needs to play within himself and not try to win the game everytime the ball gets in his hands. He does much better if he just calms down and plays within the offense rather than having the offense flow through him. Maybe that's something Mick needs to work on by having him be a support guy rather than the go-to guy.
I am seriously wondering what they do in practice. I just cannot imagine that Cash runs the point in practice the way that he runs it in actual games. But that is my only explanation as to why he does this continually. It was not in bursts last night, he played completely out of control the enitire game. The only time he was not making mistakes on the offensive end is when the ball was not in his hands. And his defense is pathetic, he plays it like he is still the quickest guy on the court, but since the knee injury he isn't. When the guy you're guarding can outquick you, you cannot get right in his jersey, you have to protect against the drive. But the same as last year, these guys are basketball morons.

The really good college players are the ones that realize that this is not high school anymore, and the talent difference is not enough for you to dominate. To be able to dominate you MUST learn to play smarter. You're not going to get more talented, you have to get smarter. These guys, coaches included, DO NOT GET IT.
Did you watch the first half? He played pretty well in the first half. So to say he was out of control the entire game is a bit of a reach.
I think most tuned in around 8:00. 03-wink

Define played well. To me the job of the point guard is to facilitate the offense, he did not do that. It's not just about turnovers or terrible shots it's also about being out of position and just sloppy overall. Calming down might help, but the guy seems pretty basketball dumb to me.
its his 3rd year in the system, and even in the preseason, he still doesnt look completely comfortable. passes are forced, running sets looks mechanical at times...its early, but at some point you have to "get it." i'll give him the benefit of the doubt and time to prove himself this year.

same thing though that we said about wilks, davis, mcclain, etc last year- if you dont "get it" by your 3rd year, you never are going to.
Cash did not play well at all, but I love the kid's attitude.

Yes, it was refreshing! I even commented to others still there that this was a first in years! Back in the day there was always someone shootng extra! I wish I would have seen more shooting out there. Our three point shooting, stick backs, and free throws atre all still not very good.

What game were you watching? 01-wingedeagle

He was terrible from start to finish.
Cash is fine. He'll help this team out greatly the next 3 years.

Not so sure. I think PG is one of the most difficult positions to "teach" in basketball. Great PGs seem to have natural skills that involve the ability to "see the court", control the game, feel the game, etc..that are developed, honed, and matured long before someone steps on a Div 1A court. Extreme examples are how easy it was for Derrick Rose, John Wall, Eric Bledsoe or Tyreke Evens to dominate as freshman point guards under Calipari. If you honestly believe Calipari had a significant affect on their point guard skills in the 6 months he coached them..then feel to connect Wright's ineffectiveness to all things anti-Cronin.

To me, the concern w/ Wright was that he played at a small Christian High School in Georgia (or SC) that supposedly played very low level competition. He scored in bunches by dominating athletically inferior competition by blowing past them for easy layups against small interior players on the opposition. He was the star of his team and didn't really have to run a structured offence, create opportunities for others off his own play, etc. Cash appears to have little feel for the game...especially in the open court in 2-1, 3-2 fast break situations. His decision making abilities seem flawed..and not just because of how "fast" he plays. In the 1/2 court, his penetration ability is very good....but he does it w/ no "vison" as to what will happen when he gets inside. This results in wild ineffective attempts to finish at the rim, and no real flow to drive and dish in a way that gets others easy shots.

The best comparison I could make is to that of Devan Downey. Downey was a score first PG who could control the game, score off his penetration at will, and create offense for others off his penetration as well. I think he walked into his first game at UC w/ those skills in place.

I feel Wright may lack the mental make-up of a top flight PG. Maybe some of these gaps can be coached....but I say if you want to blame Cronin for this one, it might be only fair to blame him for missing on projecting Wright's HS skills into a Big East level system.
Thing is with Cash is that you could see he was very frustrated with the way he was playing last night. He knows he can play better and unfortunately he had a really bad game last night.
I hope the guy can play better...but I don't think by any stretch he's "shown" he can...even if he thinks he can.

His stats from last year were not good..especially for someone averaging 18.5 mins a game.

Points: 5
FG%: 36%
3pt FG%: 26%
FT%: 59%
Assist/TO: Ratio: 1.3 (for reference..you have to be at 2.0 or higher to even crack the Top 100 in the NCAA rankings).

Take out the 1 single break-out game he had last year against Providence when he scored 24 pts (on 81% shooting), had 5 assists with 0 turnovers...and his overall stats would be even worse.

Not trying to aruge..but I'm not buying into the "Cash is better than he played" reasoning. Until the guy has 4 good games for every 1 bad game..instead of the opposite, I think he should have a short lease and that Parker (even though he's less flashy and plays a more controlled game) should be given a chance to take his minutes.
somebody said Michael Horton....good lord. That was a bad pg. Followed by Charles Williams....

Please tell me cash will be better than either of those two clowns
